1950s style Space Shuttle orbiter

After a couple of recent ‘retro’ style spacecraft builds ( viewtopic.php?f=12&t=38107 and viewtopic.php?f=12&t=38631 ) I decided to begin a new range of ‘How the future was’ models, starting with a space shuttle inspired by the designs formulated an the 1950s by von Braun, Willy Ley, Chesley Bonestell, and others.

Here’s how the initial concept was laid out, using a Pegasus V-2 as a basis

And after a weeks work, the kit of resin parts, including my first foray into clear resin parts for the canopy and portholes

And so to the finished prototypes, named after a couple of my favourite authors 

The finished model is 23cm long with a wingspan of 21cm. The kit includes optional wheeled or ski landing gear, and I’m currently working on a ‘big wing’ Mars shuttle version too.

Lovely models, and great choice of names too.

I have just found this thread - great looking craft, and great modelling.!!

Like them all - MO2 looks the part! - now if only they had built these in the '50s for real.

all the best

Paul

The MO2 is the bee's knees. Very retro, and fins everywhere. I really, really like that. I have the 1/72 kit of the manned V2, so I'm about halfway there!

Oh, yes!!! :clapping: What brilliant concepts. I especially love the S3 rocket configuration one. I could just see Eagle comic doing a cutaway diagram of that one. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
