OK folks, I'm looking for suggestions for a Diorama/Figure Group Build to take place in the autumn
The Group Build may be of a specific kit (please make any suggestions from the current catalogue), or on a theme sush as a specific time period/war, an historic battle or a build on a theme    For example:- a theme of cavalry might be suggested. This could encapsulate English Civil War or Napoleonic cavalry figures either as a single figure build or as part of a diorama, WWI or WWII (ex)cavalry units with AFV's (I'd expect a/some figures on a small diorama base

When we have some options to choose from, I'll set up a multi-choice poll (initially) to see which suggestion(s) are most popular. Then we can make the neccesary arrangements

If wargame style modules, rather than fully incorporated dioramas, are acceptable I'd be up for a bash at the 'Forward Command Post' and the 'Control Tower'.

All the best

The size of the diorama is up to the individual Andy

Perhaps those you've mentioned could be

Airfield Diorama - which could incorporate buildings, vehicles and aircraft (along with figures of course)

Ruined Building Diorama - the title says it, but might incorporate AFV's or softskins, maybe an aircraft crashed into the building, but with the obligatory figures    The building need not be a kit, it could be scratchbuilt, but some part of the Dio must be of Airfix origin to comply with the  Read the rules

Open to suggestions

Why not just go for a diorama featuring Airfix figures and/or buildings, this could cover any period and many subjects and also include aircraft and  other vehicles.

Some ideas I have perculating:

A small Far East airfield diorama featuring perhaps the Jungle Outpost, a GMC or Jeep with something like a Brewster Buffalo or Corsair ready for take off. Ground crew figures from the Airfix range.

An anti tank gun, either Pak 40 or 6pdr concealed in ambush position behind the Forward command post with an observer perched up in the loft.

Battle for Le Haye Saint featuring the Waterloo farm house and defending/attacking troops

WW1 trench assault, an area of  trench with defending/attacking troops

Just some thoughts, if we keep it fairly open we may get more takers.

Cheers

Stu

That's the idea, I think the problem so far in getting folks to join a diorama build has been the narrowing down of options if we open the field I am sure that we will get plenty of takers.

You only have to browse through the Airfix catalogue and use a little imagination and the diorama posibilities are enormous. For those new to diorama building there are even dioramas in a box  with the new airfield sets and the latest D-Day set which all contain ready made diorama bases. Even the Shaun the Sheep sets have potential for dioramas

The Airfix Waterloo farmhouse looks a bit underscale to me...and the gatehouse arrangement is incorrect.

I'm not sure what HO/00 figures accompany this building, but few can accurately be used to make a diorama of LHS under attack. Not many of the troop types the Airfix figures represent was engaged in the battle for it (an exception might possibly be the RHA battery).

The compound was defended by KGL and 95th riflemen, and early in the day was isolated by French line infantry. A battalion of Hanoverians went forward in support but were destroyed by French cuirassiers, who were themselves destroyed in their turn by the Household Cavalry. French line troops later captured the farm.

Of those troop types, the only ones Airfix do are cuirassiers, which aren't very good. The French infantry set are not line infantry - they appear to be Young Guard, who spent all day in Plancenoit.

The best sets from an accuracy perspective are the British line, British RHA and Prussian Landwehr.

I guess you could break up 2 or 3 LHS farmhouses and show the Prussians in streetfight action against the Young Guard.

If I took part in this GB I would plan to make a very small dio around my 54mm 95th Riflemen
