Well there are a number of kits that I've been thinking of building for the display.
EDIT: Concise list of what I plan to/would like to build for the display
1/72:
- Gloster Gladiator
- Swordfish II
- Mosquito FB.VI
- Me110
- Re-Wire Dapol Breakdown Crane
1/48
- TSR.2
- Mosquito B.Mk.XVI
- Tornado GR?
1/24
- Harrier GR3
Aside from kits, I'd also be keen to help with any building of 'infrastructure' for the display - instead of having a completely flat table, it'd be nice if we could have a few plinths or shelves for models, and there was the idea of a small 1' high backscene too
Aside from kits, I'll also tart up a few of the Airfix 00 Gauge "Railway System" bits that I've got to cover the short lived venture of the eighties. I've got a BR Blue Class 31 loco and BR Green Royal Scot loco that could be displayed along with boxed track and a controller from a complete "Intercity" Train Set. _________________ Owen

I quite like the idea of building 5 1950's Airfix kits - I've made a start on a Gloucester Gladiator. It is one very primitive kit! _________________ Owen

No dissing - I'm enjoying it! It's just very primitive - things like the canopy/cockpit make for interesting arrangements! _________________ Owen

Here's what I've done so far - being primitive means I've ploughed through it pretty quickly!
Wings were fitted to the fuselage, along with the fixed u/c struts and filler applied around the nasty bits. Main engine cowling was cleaned up (at the loss of a bit of badly moulded detail) and the canopy painted and fitted. I chopped out the original figure and replaced him with a pilot from the spares as it wasn't detailed and the poor fit meant it was misaligned.
The first four struts were fitted with the upper wing:

Followed by the rest - both wings were gifted with four nice large injector pin marks which took a while to clean up:
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3013/glad3.jpg
The canopy was then masked up ready for Primer:

And the Gladiator is now primed up awaiting NMF - I'll use Halfords BMW Silver and tone it down to look like a Matted Dope, and then pick out the metal panels with different tones.

Now in Silver
I've also drilled the two holes to let it sit on the stand.
The Swordfish on the other side will give two biplanes, and then perhaps two, two engined aircraft of some sort at the back. The Mosquito FBVI (If I can find one - King Kit do one for £5.99), along with either a Whirlwind, Beaufighter or Me110 would be ideal All built with wheels up of course _________________ Owen

Cheers Tom
Bit more today - the Gladiator is nearly finished. Just needs a coat of Klear to seal in the decals and a bit of work on the u/c wheels.
I have spent an interesting evening enjoying the fruits of biplane rigging - I've never done it before and it certainly is a good test of patience! I used stretched sprue, but have glued it using two part epoxy as I am out of Superglue
I'm quite proud of it as a first attempt though, and with the decals on I take back everything - it's a great little kit! Very rewarding indeed
With that one somewhat complete, things now move towards the next biplane - the Swordfish II. This is from the Airfix Club kit and I'll build it in the Sea Grey/Sea Green uppersurfaces with White everything else scheme.
More to come, of course _________________ Owen

I hate to tell you this Owen, but you've made the same mistake that I did. The version of the kit you have has the colours on the roundels reversed _________________ Cheers,

I did think that when putting them - I just presumed it was a pre-war alternative. How on earth they managed that one, I would like to know! They've not been sealed yet, so should come off with a bit of meths _________________ Owen

I've got a set for the same scheme from an 09 boxing with the colours the right way round if you want them Owen? I'm using some matchbox decals on mine. _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Thanks for the offer George, but I've had a rummage through the spares box this afternoon and have knocked up some correct roundels
On the subject of biplanes, I've done a bit more on the Swordfish this afternoon - the bottom wing is fixed and filled and I'm making a start on the struts. I'm working out how best to paint it - I think I'll spray it in H130 white and the do the Green/Grey camo on both wing uppersurfaces with the brush It'll be a challenge to say the least! _________________ Owen

You'll need more than Roundels Owen, hence the offer; the stripes are the wrong way round as well! The red stripes should be on the outside! _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Dear me! Someone must've got a kick up the rear when these got sent out!
Thanks for offer again George, but I'm happy with it is now - it looks like a Gladiator after all _________________ Owen

No probs. I've got another set exactly the same as yours. I thought it was a machine from the Danish airforce! _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Owen, the camo on the lower wings of the Swordfish were a different colour to the top ones
Extra Dark Sea Grey, Temperate Sea Scheme (FAA) = FS: 36118 (36099), 16*Hu: 25 Matt Blue + 7*Hu: 70 Matt Brick Red + 6*Hu: 150 Matt Forest Green + 5*Hu: 34 Matt White (Hu: 125 Satin U.S. Dark Grey)
Dark Slate Grey, Temperate Sea Scheme (FAA) = FS: 34096, Hu: 102 Matt Army Green (6*Hu: 116 Matt U.S. Dark Green + 6*Hu: 117 Matt U.S. Light Green + 1*Hu: 163 Satin Dark Green)
Light Slate Grey, Over side, lower wings, "shadow shading", FAA aircraft = FS: 34159, 6*Hu: 78 Matt Cockpit Green + 1*Hu: 161
Dark Sea Grey, Over side, lower wings, "shadow shading", FAA aircraft = FS: 36173 (36099), 5*Hu: 34 Matt White + 4*Hu: 27 Matt Sea Grey + 1*Hu: 106 Matt Ocean Grey
I used
Hu: 78 Matt Cockpit Green = lower wing camouflage
Hu: 27 Matt Sea Grey = lower wing camouflage
Hu: 79 Matt Blue Grey = upper wing camouflage
HB: 8 Authentic Dark Slate Grey = upper wing camouflage

Thanks for the advice I'm not entirely sure what the colour scheme is - I'm using the second scheme in the Airfix Club kit, but will compare the colours with what you've got _________________ Owen

In a modelling revelation yesterday, I remembered that buried deep within the stash was a 1/24 Harrier GR3 with Heritage Aviation Resin Cockpit set that I started building for the 2007 Falklands War GB, but never finished because I hit the wall with it.
Last night, I finally got round to finishing a few things off - namely the cockpit and all other components that were needed to get the fuselage halves together - the fit isn't perfect and I'll need a lot of filler but I think I'll try and finish this one off for SMW too _________________ Owen
