The SIG will have a small display in conjuction with the ATF at the Shropshire Model Show, Cosford Sunday 5/4/09. The theme will be a mini version of the planned SMW '09 display. The 60th Anniversary of Airfix.
The plan for the display is to exhibit a couple models for each decade, with some information about models (box art etc) displayed next to the models. Space allowing there will be a small presentation of the logo or boxart types on a history timeline.
It would be nice to see a mix of model types rather than just aircraft if possible. If you are coming to the show and would like to bring something, please make a post. The only criteria for the models are; you're a SIG member, they are Airfix, you want to show them on the display. This is all about having fun and meeting up with other Airfix enthusiasts. Even if you don't want to bring any models, come along and say hello, it should be an great day!
Best
Rich

I'm tied up that weekend. Anyone from my neck of the woods going who could take along something from me?

Only a few days to go! If any SIG members want to join in the display let me know by pm, alternatively there will probably be space if you want to turn up on the day with a model or two.
Either way, pop by to have a chat with the guys, it will be a good chance to meet and greet.

Folks, I'm sorry to say that my attendance on Sunday is in some doubt due to a problem with travel arrangements. I will be making an effort to get there but simply can't guarantee that it will come off.

It looks like it was a real success - well done all! The table looked very busy! _________________ Owen

Ayup All...
Just a note to say a BIG, BIG Thankyou to Ratch, Colin, Adrian, Paul, and Thomas for making the whole day a roaring success. Thanks to RichM, there in spirit, if not person, who provided us with Materiel to set the table up.
As Ratch said, there was a lot of 'Memory Lane' evoked by the display of top quality Models (and i don't mean mine) that made the stand such a talking point. Best of all attracting FAMILIES with kids, who were shown how this hobby began, what you can get from Airfix Models, and may have hopefully have caused a kit or two hitherto not expected to be bought, to be taken home and bashed as we speak ! even if only in the hope of recapturing a childhood memory and feeling...
The boys seemed undersandably nervous about engaging the General Public, but i think they were getting the hang of it in the end... (sorry, but no such worries here... )
It was great to see the rest of the show, and there was some Lovely stuff on view, but it didn't seem as if many 'New' Models were built for the stands... Still, a good show.
For the record, all i came away with was a Matchbox '32 Mk 22/24 Spit, an Airfix '48 MIG 17F (!) and some EMA Plastic Weld, and 4 packs of Scalpel Blades... really...
Well done ATF and Airfix SIG. Next Show, Bring it on ! _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.
