Will be making a 1/72 Tornado EF3 of 11 Sqn based at Leeming.
The EF3 was a proposed update for a number of F3s to introduce a SEAD ( Wild Weasel / Tornado ECR ) role to the type. This included under-fuselage stores for ALARM anti-radar missiles and Chaff/Flare and ECM pods for the outer wing pylons which were not used on the F3 version of the Tornado.
Unfortunately this update was not used operationally.
Here are the box contents:

Andy

New added parts for the EF3...

New decal sheet , the version I will be building...

Looking through a copy of SAM from 2004 and found this.....

The kits colour scheme is the same as the 1/48 F3 /EF3 ..

This puts a spanner in the works because I like the old 11 Sqn markings with the bigger Eagles ......
choices      Think

Thanks Tom

Bit more progress tonight...

Filled area behind rear control panel with plasticard

Filled area on spine where the two blade aerials go.Late F3s have a small circular disc near this area.

Ejector seats with added belts made from pre-painted Tamiya tape

Tail and cockpit glued to fuselage. Bit of filling required .

Also primed the wings and found that the primer im using , Wilkos Grey Primer , is a good match for Barley Grey.

Bit more progress....

Brought the fuselage halves together and found out that they are a bit warped but got them together with a bit of tape and gradually gluing ( I use EMA plastic weld , good stuff ) from the rear to the nose . Wings and fins also added.

Off to bed now...those blooming early starts ( 5.45 !!   )

Not a lot done so no pics tonight.
Intakes made and a couple of aerials fitted to the tail.
Sanded fuselage join lines and it looks like they wont need any filler ,will soon know once the primer goes on.

Out with the wet and dry and sanding sticks ...

Drilled holes in Chaff dispensers and fitted on to fuselage

Got the blade and mini-drills out and modified the fuselage pylons , bottom one is the correct shape.

Drilled holes in fuselage for the pylons and dry fitted onto fuselage

Looking good Andy. You building it wheels up or down ? If wheels down use super glue or replacement white metal parts to stop the undercarriage going bandy. I never heeded the advice from Mike McEvoy so my Tonka GR looks like its gone out for a night on the town ! I managed to obtain Airfix Hitech pewter undercarriage parts for my next tonka to help support the weight.

Hi Tom ,
Will build it wheels down.
Built this kit a while ago ,see here http://airfixtributeforum.myfastf...t10567.html&highlight=tornado
and , touch wood , the U/C legs are still quite rigid , but , might have alook at Aeroclubs website for some metal legs to be on the safe side as this F3 will be fully armed and dangerous

No new pics tonight....Sanded the fuselage sides down and fitted the air intakes .

Bit more to add....
Added the "Disc antenna" on top of fuselage , might need reducing in size though.
Airbrakes in the closed position and intakes fitted.......

......intakes need a bit of work to fit correctly , used some plasticard for the big gaps where they meet the fuselage .

Really enjoying building this , will try to do a bit more tonight.
Thanks for looking

Andy

Bits and bobs done tonight......

Put a few coats of brushed Xtracrylics Barley Grey on and details on the fin. Had a go at scribing the side access panels on the front fuselage. Engines on ....

Bit of masking for the Light aircraft Grey......

Light a/c grey on wings ,tails and fuselage. Undercarrige bays painted white.

This is giving me a bit of a nudge to finish the Italeri F3 I started last year.....

More to follow tomorrow

Andy
