To kick things off, here a few aircraft from my stash that are in the running for a build. I like WW2 twin and multi engined aircraft, and prefer odd or unusual aircraft. I also like to do different camouflage schemes and markings.

Amiot 143, SMER 1/72 injection kit.
Caproni Ca313, Italeri 1/72 injection kit.
Focke Wulf FW189, 1/72 MPM.
Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV, Special Hobby 1/72.
Piaggio P108B, Special Hobby 1/72.
Avia B-71, ICM 1/72. In bulgarian markings.

Should be plenty to be getting on with!

- Heller Caudron Renault 714 (1/72)

- Tamiya Me262 + Me163 (1/100)

- Airfix Avro Anson I (Sorry Rich, but IMHO, I think it is ugly

I have three in my stach that I may build in this GB.
They are
Potez 540 Heller kit
Aero MB200 KP kit
Farman 223.3 Azur kit
All 1:72 scale.
Just now they are in the order of preference but I'll make up my mind soon and post the one I intend to build.
Note that all the types on my list are 30s French aircraft.
Later I might list some Italian types
e.g
CANT Z1007bis Bideriva - Supermodel kit
CANT Z506B Airone - Supermodel kit
CANT Z501 - Italeri kit
again all 1:72.

I built my Italeri Boeing X-32 a few years ago, but I don't have a camera at present. I'd consider doing the Airfix RE8 or the Revell DH2, but they're a bit heavy on the rigging, so maybe I'll go for the Airfix FW 189 - I was planning to do it as a Dogfight Double that never was, with the Yak-9D.

Well, the Russians have their Antonov-2 - it looks like a flying cow transporter. There's also the Lysander - the one with the Lanc type tail with turret. Of course there's the agricultural Australian Air Truk - an example of how to make someone die laughing. The Poles has the Wilga glider tug and the Americans has the flyling 'pancake' - a cross between a plane and flying disc..... there's plenty of 'ugly' stuff you don't hear about because it's stuff people would rather forget.

For me it will be the SMER 1/48 Supermarine Walrus.

I wouldn't call the Stuka an Ugly plane, it isn't a winner for beauty, but it has grunt, it can pack a punch. The inter-war French, Italian and Russian Planes seemed to be weak, flimsy and vunerable, plus they were mostly very ugly.

Owen, I agree with you on the 'prettyness' of the Stuka, I think that for its day, unchallenged, with fighter top cover, it was pretty formidable and suited to its job.

The Russian and French planes, however, i don't know. the Russian yaks were (as far as i've read) very heftily constructed for their harsh environment. Maybe underpowered, but VERY rugged. they had to be for the russian steppes's terrible winters. Plus there were SOME russian aces who did manage to shoot down german planes in the air...

Mind you, i'm sure someone will flesh these statements out,the articles i read were in some of last years mags...

Oh, and what do we think about the FW189 and He410?

I think Ron hits the nail on the head when he says beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One mans Princess is another mans frog.

I must admit I am fascinated by unusual designers ( e.g. Blohm and Voss ) and other lesser known aircraft and manufacturers that pushed the design envelope beyond the "safe and normal" of their day
