I don't do ships. This one came from my attic where it has been for the last 30 years.  It was in a pretty dire condition so I played with it.

HMS Suffolk, Gerry! Or at least a County class.  :-) I love the action photo - very convincing.  The gun smoke is cotton wool isn't it? I can't decide if the funnel smoke is physical or digital though?
Cheers

HMS Suffolk and not Belfast - see, I don't know anything about ships. It was so long ago. As I recall, my son started to build it when he was about 13 but the hull was completely warped so he discarded it. Naturally, I stepped in and unwarped it as best I could, but it's a ship so my heart was never in it.

No it isn't cotton wool and the smoke from the tall cylindrical thing isn't digital. The gunsmoke and other smoke is some kind of packing material made from some kind of artificial fibre - no idea what it's called. I used it rather than cotton as it is rigid so it won't droop with age, like the rest of me.

I would be greatful if a moderator would move my entry to and appropriate section, i.e. the right ship.

Here's mine from when I was still at school  :D
HMS Suffolk 1941 1/600scale Airfix kit 03203-6. R.N. County Class (Kent Group) heavy cruiser, built June1979 OOB complete with the camouflage scheme from the "new version" box top, which unbeknownst to me was in incorrect colours. So my model is also incorrect regarding it's camo (so's my 1/1200scale version too). Anyhow, used Airfix paints and Testors Matt rattlecan varnish.

But they look great!
I saw the 1/600 HMS Suffolk in my LMS today but left her on the shelf as I've already got quite a few ships in the stash.  Looks like I'll be one adding another one soon...
It's always good to see ships here, thanks for sharing.
Simon.

Hey thanks Raptor. I'd be happier if I got the camo an' all right though. :)

Such fine models from everyone. It's great to see these and inspires me to buy and build them. It would be nice if Airfix would re-issue some of the ones I knew from my schooldays; like HMS Tiger, HMS Hotspur, HMS Cossack, HMS Campbeltown and so on.
