From the GB FAQ.

Quote:
Group Build Leaders
1. Anyone who nominates the subject(s) for a Group Build (GB) automatically becomes Group Build Leader.

2. The Group Build Leader carries out a poll of members to see if subject is popular as a Group Build. This is done in liaison with the Group Build Guru for that subject.

3. If subject is popular (i.e. three or more wish to take part), the Group Build Leader carries out a second poll of members to determine the start date of the GB. This is also done in liaison with the Group Build Guru for that subject.

4. Once the start date has been agreed, the Group Build Leader has to approve members signing up for the GB via the Usergroups. [DaveCov will set up a Forum and a Usergroup for the Group Build]. The Group Build Leader will automatically be a member of the GB Usergroup by virtue of being moderator for it.

5. Having approved a member, the Group Build Leader has to create a thread in the appropriate Group Build Forum for that member to record their build.

6. Once the Group Build has started the Group Build Leader should, as well as leading by example, monitor the progress of the participants. The Group Build Leader should also give appropriate encouragement when necessary to ensure that the end date will be met.

Really it's only 4-6 that needs taking care of (mainly 6) for any new members that sign up between now and the start date.

Thanks. Hardly seems fair as I didn't vote or anything, but if you have no other more suitable volunteers, let me know.

No problem. Thank me if the GB doesn't turn out to be a disaster!

I'm considering doing a Midway bird or one of the squadron that visited RNAS Hatston.

Welcome to the forum and the GB!

You can only show pictures of the Airfix kit in the GB build thread (forum rules), however, you can set up a thread dedicated to your Valom build in the Demo-builds section. Alternatively you can post your Valom progress in the "Models on the go...at the mo" thread in modelling chat. I'd be very interested to see how a Valom kit goes together.

Thanks for the advice, i'll post the Valom build in the models on the go thread.
It looks good on the Sprue, no wing fold option and some nice cast resin parts.
Regards
Mark

Cockpit colours

The best info I can find is aluminium dope for new machines with brown headrests

Then approximatly circa 1940 certain aircraft where re-painted in dull bronze green upper surfaces with black headrest.

The wartime scheme when the aircraft where painted blue/grey seems to have been a blue/grey colour for the upper surfaces also with headrest.
The lower cockpits stayed in aluminium dope.

This is my own research on the internet so could very well be wrong, but it seems pretty certain no zinc chromate was used.

Is the 'bronze green' not chromate?

I have posted a link to a set of articles on IPMS Stockholm, that makes things a lot clearer in the referance section.

For instance when zinc chromate is painted over aluminium it looks like apple green.

The bronze green is more like Humbrol 78 to my eye.

So on the later Devastators it could be Bronze green or with the chromate applied Apple green.

All this worrying about colours has stopped my build :-)

Let's not get into knots over a particular shade of green - build whatever looks right to you, and we won't involve the 'roundel police'!

I think I'll go for all silver on my aircraft...

Heepdrutt,
Use what ever shade of silver or aluminium you like.  Who is going to able to prove you wrong?

There were two production batches,  BuNos 0268 to 0381, delivered between August 1937 and June 1938 and 1505 to 1519, delivered between June and October 1939.
Almost certainly all were built with aluminium finish on the inside of the airframe.

Thanks Roger,

I have 3 Devastators building a yellow winged Valom, neutrality grey Airfix and a blue grey Valom.
It was the Blue/grey that was proving difficult to pin down the interior colours too I think we have a good idea now though.
I find the subject research the most fun part of the build, the build usually turns into...well photographs soon.
