Just waiting for all the parts to arrive for mine, I was impressed how clean the moulding is and the box is very retro Airfix.
Its the latest boxing Made in India !

I have ordered the etched set from White Ensign models as I want to build it with the Wings folded, I have also ordered the Techmod decal sheet from Aeroclub as I want to build a Neutrality grey aircraft.

I'm also building the Valom kits I will post details of them in the demo build.

By the way this will be my first build in about 8 years and I intend using an airbrush for the first time, I've just bought an Aztec.

I have just recieved the interior etch set from WEM they say the interior should be aluminium dope for early machines and then chromate green for blue/grey machines.
The colour photos I have seen seem to show a standard interior green like Humbol 78
Any ideas ???

Hi Mark,

I've moved your latest post out of Ron's build thread and into your own.

Thanks Adrian sorry for putting question in wrong place.

Today I have assembled or rather folded the cockpit interior from WEM, now in two minds whether to open the bomb aimers window doors, as this is included on the etch set but I have not seen any photos of parked planes with this open.

It's unlikely that the interior would be H78, but more like a chromate green which is brighter and more yellow. I think Humbrol 226 is usually about right for this.

Mind you, the pictures in 'Naval Fighter Number 71: Douglas TBD-1 Devastator' by Steve Ginter seem to show most of the interior in a silver or unpainted metal finish. Not being an expert in US aircraft, I can't say for sure when widespread use of green chromate primer became commonplace. Anybody?

As an additional point, could I ask everyone to keep questions about their own build in their own thread and more general questions in chat? Thanks.

Trying to find out more about the interior colours so far I have found out the aircraft where delivered new with the interior painted in aluminium dope, so this would probably be correct for a yellow winged machine, then at some point the upper deckings where painted blue/grey as per the surviving aircraft.
Opinion is definatly not zinc chromate, this is turning into a real can of worms :-)
The link I posted to the colour photos seems to show a green on a yellow winged machine.
Also the top of the pilots headrest originally was brown, but later could have been green or black.
As I'm hoping to build mine in neutrality grey I think safest guess is aluminium dope :-)
I'll try to find out more and post in the chat.

Confused Mark

I have also started on the wings.

The outer wings are difficult to clean up due to the large sprue gate and the corrugated edges.

Oh wow!  Makes me regret being so far behind on the other GBs I've signed up for.

Paint shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as you degreased the etch before folding it up - I usually give the fret a patting down with kitchen towel soaked in meths.  I also give major lumps a coat of primer - sometimes spray can bare metal primer, sometimes just Humbrol light grey as here:

That etched set certainly is good, I am feeling a little tempted to get one myself.

Coming along very nicely

Cheers

Thanks for all the comments and advice.

The etch set seems to fit ok in the fuselage, I am about to paint so fingers crossed I don't ruin it.

I just received my order from Aeroclub and the Techmod early sheet is now also out of stock.

Anybody know who might have them In stock

'Fraid I don't know about the Techmod sheet but the Starfighter Decals set looks very nice and mine arrived from the US surprisingly quickly.

They do a 'Devastators in War Paint' - http://www.starfighter-decals.com...tbd-devastators-in-war-72108.html

And 'Devastators in Neutrality Patrol' - http://www.starfighter-decals.com...tstors-pt2-neutrality7210912.html

There are also some early markings from 'Yellow Wings' which were available from Hannants last time I looked but not sure about now

Fantastic job on the etch by the way! Setting a high standard for the rest of us...

Thanks for the links I have ordered from them.

If anybody wants the decals from the Valom 1942 Devastator let me know and I'll post them out.

The etched parts look very impressive. Nice work on the cockpit interior, it should look good when it's painted.
