Hi all,

I recently got my hands on these single page adverts from old comics, and I thought I would share them with you.

Mark.

Hi all,

I got another advert through today.

Image

There is potential here to display the advert with the models at a future show.

Mark.

Recently, I have got collections of comics on DVD which I used to get weekly as a teenager. My main comic from this period was Warlord, but I also have a couple of others on DVD which I dabbled in from time to time - Bullet and Action.

Anyway, these comics from time to time contained adverts for Airfix models. I'll add more as I come across them as I have over 700 comics to work through!

The first page is just so Roy Lichtenstein. Great stuff.

I have used all of the above adverts in Constant Scale over the years and in CS59 (at the printers) there is a comic ad for HMS Ajax. The comic ones were always different to the standard ones in aircraft and modelling magazines and seemed to have a certain niaive charm (Achtung, Spitfuer!, etc).

I have been buying them when they come up, but I realise there are a lot I have never seen as I stopped buying comics in the early to mid 60s. Airfix must have spent a fortune on kids adverts!

Re-posts for this specific thread! I've also come across some great adverts in comics...

And I think they can look really good in frames from the pound shops!

Just an idea to decorate the modelling area! I'm also looking into framing photocopies of the covers from some of my vintage Airfix magazines, as they can be quite colourful and nostalgic!
