, the user group has now been set up so please see the following for details on how to join the build.

Welcome to the Airfix Amphibious Warfare Group Build for which Stuzzar is Group Build Leader. This is the "Chat" thread for the Group Build and any reference material should be posted in the Reference Section.

If you wish to take part in the Group Build, click on the Usergroups link at the top of the page. Then::

Go to the lower of the two drop-down boxes where it says "Join a Group"

Select "Group Build - Amphibious"

Click "View Information"

Click on "Join Group".

Stuzzar will then approve your membership of the Group Build and create a thread for you to record progress of your build.

That's all there is to it!

No, it's a Military Vehicle build, and whilst I guess aircraft are vehicles of a sort, it's really only wheely floaty things.

I'm joining, originally it was going to be with the LCM without the sherman as I knew I had one in the stash, but on checking it was nearly complete! (When did I do that

).

So picked up a buffalo at SMW, the intention is to do that beached, without the jeep.

Interesting topic, I'll do dig in the stash to see whats there I'm hoping for a Buffalo, else its off to the LMS. For variety though perhaps a conversion to a LVT(A)4 with an open topped turret.

I think I might convert an Airfix LVT to this. On first glance it seems that I need a turret from a M5 Stuart. Anybody care to shed some light on this situation

The one I will attempt to convert will be the LVT(A)(Mark I)

I may be able to help with at least part of the Stuart Turret, The Matchbox Stuart tank kit came with both British and US type turrets if memory serves.

I have built mine with the British Turret so have a few spare US turrets but cannot remember if the whole thing, Gun/hatches etc were supplied as extra parts, I will check the spares box tonight.

It's only the front of the turret that's Stuart-like, the back end is cut off square, and too short to be that of the M5A1 either.

I was just looking at the shape of that turret it is quite square at the back isn't it

The following link shows the turret that I have spares of, I think that it should not be too difficult to cut the back off and scratch build the square shaped rear section, of course I could be wrong

Would make an interesting conversion subject and you can bet that as soon as it is finished Italeri will release their long promised version of this vehicle.

I'll repost in references but I have the Article from the Airfix 1977 Februrary issue on converting the Buffalo into a LVT(A)1 , will scan and turn into a pdf if anyone wants.

Edited after a read of the said article on the train in to work.

The conversion to a LVT(A)1 does require a bit of work reshaping the hull as the earlier LVT's had the engines mounted at the rear. The other major item will be modifying the pontoons which need to be trimed and have some of the suspension arms relocated and an additional pair constructed from scrap or units sourced from the spares bin ( I can assist with this)

A visit to my LMS yielded an Airfix Buffalo so I'll put myself down for a conversion to an LVT(A)1. I may rue my decision not to do a DD Sherman.

Sadly, I'm going to have to sit this one out, due to unforeseen reasons. However, I am keen to take part and will have to be a late entrant in the New Year, when I will attempt a DD Sherman.
