Hi Rich,
Just to say that I am hoping to build my ANSON as a Mk 1 UA-M, N5314, 269Sqn. Coastal Command, Wick, 1939. using the decals from a 'Kits at War' sheet issued by Dutch Decals a number of years ago. It has night black undersides and pre-war squadron codes.
Looking forward to the 15th November.
Ron.

Hasn't 15th November arrived quickly!
Here are the kit parts, instructions, kit box and the Dutch Decals for N5314 and their instruction leaflet.

Hope to make a start on construction later today. The kit was purchased from my LMS at Meadowhall, Sheffield about two months ago for £4.99.
More later.

I didn't know there was a model shop at Meadowhall, I usually avoid the place when we pass (much to the wife's annoyance ) perhaps I'll have to treat her to a visit next time.

What's the shop?

Now that the Heyford is finished I am able to make time for the Anson.
Here is todays stage where the port fuselage half has been painted Hu78 and the transparencies added. I separated the small window from the bigger one since I found it easier to cement it in position. I used ZAP superglue for that after coating the clear parts in Klear/Future, Just a little clouding but not too noticeable.
The cocpkit parts (seat, instrument panel and joystick)have been added and also the radio operators position. Not being a 'figure' man I have left the crew out but have painted the seats to give a leather effect. I added the internal bracing across the windows from Evergreen strip styrene pre painted Hu78. I used half round strip 1.0 mm but this is probably just a little bit too thick.( Might have been better to have stretched some sprue myself but hesitate about using lighted candles in this flat!). I have painted various other items also, so good progress is being made. Hope to get the fuselage halves joined up over the weekend.

More later.

Fuselage halves joined and join line filled top and bottom.
Here the canopy, upper fuselage windows and turret are being tested fitted. No cement yet!

This Anson is going together quite well - maybe the more you make of any one type the better you get at it!
Also today I have cleaned up the wings and the engine nacelles. The main undercarriage parts have been cemented together with the wheels in place. I painted the tyres Hu67 Tank Grey which is better than Hu33 I think.
Making good progress - should be fully assembled and ready to paint by mid week hopefully.
More later

Quite a lot of progress since my last post.
Transparencies (cockpit canopy and top windows) have been added and the wings have been fully assembled with the undercarriage units in place. The tailplanes have been added and the joins filled. Then the top surfaces have had a thin priming coat of Hu29 and the lower surfaces Hu33 matt black. As here

and here

I note from Alan Hall's Warpaint book on the Anson that his plans show the oil coolers on the engine nacelles to be on the outer sides whilst the kit has one on the outside and one on the inside.
I cannot find evidence to support the 'outside' position for both. Anyone got any ideas please.? Which is correct?
Also whilst building this kit I noticed the faint lines of the underbelly stringers which rapidly disappear under a couple of coats of paint.
I wonder if there is way of making them slightly more prominent before painting.

Next step with this build is to paint the dark green camouflage (Hu30!) and then a second coat of black underneath. Paint drying time ahead!
Then the lining of the cockpit and side windows, and the turret - all using pre-painted decal strips.
More follows.
Ron.

From photograghs in various books it seems for the Mk.I with the helmeted cowl, the left engine oil cooler was inner and the right outer. (Warpaint rear cover bottom picture of ATA aircraft.)

For Mk.I's with the Oxford type cowls. the oil cooler appears in several photo's of the left engine to be in the outer position.
(e.g Warpaint p26 top photo)

On the later marks (11 and up) the oil coolers appear in the outer position (where they are present).

There are photo's which contradict this, e.g Warpaint p39 photo 7. But I don't know if this was just a reversal of the positions on these aircraft, as unfortunately there is only a photo of one side.

If I get some time I'll scan some pictures.

Haven't reported progress on this for a while.
Since the last post I have applied a second coat of Hu29 to the upper surfaces and have generally tidied up the black undersides. Also I have painted the green (Hu30) camouflage and have given the model a couple of coats of Klear.
Most work though has been on the canopy framing - about half done now and then the turret.
Here it is as of tonight

Soon be time for the final details - like the aerial post, D/F loop and tailwheel, and then the decals and final coats of Mattcote.
Like Rich I am an Anson admirer and intend to use my AIRFIX CLUB  passport to obtain one or more extra Anson kits. Reading Alan Hall's Warpaint recent book on the Anson there are lots of wartime and civilian schemes yet to be made.
Despite various deficiencies this kit makes up into a decent replica of Mk.1 Anson.

That looks great. I thought H30 was a wrong colour for WW2 planes?

Hi heggy,
Yes you are quite right. There are definitely some who think it is too dark. But I have always used it on my WW2 models - it just seems right to me. And when it is mattcoted it goes lighter. Some people use it with about 20% Hu64 light grey added to tone it down.
Thanks for your comments.
Ron.

I also use Hu30, but is there really a right or wrong colour? All colours will get bleached by the sun and the elements so you are never going to be 100% accurate.
As long as your happy that's all that matters.

Virtually complete now - just some very minor touching in to be done.

Glad to have taken part in this Group Build with so many fine replicas being made by several others here.
More photos later.
