In my youth back in the 1970's I had a Betta Bilda set which I inherited from an older relative.
I loved it, it was HO/OO scale so compatible with the Airfix and Matchbox figures I was gradually amassing at the time.
Usually I built semi ruined houses and factories with it.
Many a battle was fought and refought over the years until my mum decided I didn't need Lego and Betta Bilda so binned the latter in one of her spring cleaning frenzies. :(
I was just thinking, what happened to the moulds for this building set. Do they still exist or were they scrapped years ago when Lego became the success that it is today ?
Anyone know ?

Ah yes Betta Bida I had that (never Lego), in fact I must have a rummage in the spares tin as I may still have some pieces. (I wonder if they will fit the new Airfix quick build range)

I had Betta builder; far more useful for Wargaming than Lego as the bricks were more in scale: I think it went to my nephews so probably destroyed by now.

I had Betta Bilda too. IIRC Lego successfully sued Airfix for copying their interlocking brick system so I wouldn't be surprised if the tools were destroyed
It goes for silly money on e-bay too

Now that women are allowed to serve in all combat roles, one imagines how this would have played out in the past. It is terrible indeed to imagine what would have happened to Atlanta if Sherman had brought along a regiment of moms... :angryfire:

Ratch, I never knew they were sued.
I keep hoping the tools are still around and somebody starts production again. I've been looking on ebay for nostalgias sake and I agree about the prices. I keep hoping to come across a box of the stuff at a car boot sale.

I used to love Betta Bilda and spent lots of time making Thunderbirds-type aircraft or ships. Hardly ever used to build houses with it. I can remember getting told off by my teacher for not writing "Better Builder" in an English essay. Had to bring some in to to put the madam right!

I have quite a lot of it in my modelling den at the moment that I have acquired over the past five years or so. Perhaps one day I will get round to using it for the purpose for which it was bought - moulding. Then again, I might just play with it!

I had Betta Bilda, even as a lad the roofing tiles impressed me and you could make much more realistic roofs than with Lego. I used to mess around with the basic building designs and try and create something different. There must have been a subliminal message there, although these days I have a CAD programme to play with rather than plastic bricks!

Hi everyone.
New on here. Made Airfix models since I was 8. but a question regarding Airfix's Betta Builda bricks. Just bought a set of used bricks and doors, windows, roof tiles etc but have a question. Does anyone know how the green roof tiles fix to the white house bricks? Does the roof just sit on top? Or does it click/clip onto special bricks? Any help regarding Betta Builda would be appreciated.
Thanks

Betta Bilda roof tiles just sit on top of the white bricks. No special bricks, clicking or clipping required.

Often the roof determined the shape and size of the building beneath (for me)
