Time for me to pull my finger out on this one.
The kit is out of the stash and here are the sprue shots. Well, first up the destructions which are typical 1990s Airfix fayre:
The kit itself is in two different colours - most of it is black for the chassis, underside and the interior. I suppose that this is no surprise as the interior is likely to have been leather in such a luxury sports motor as this. The bodyshell is moulded in white plastic which looks a bit flimsy...
As I've said elsewhere when there was a discussion on the pedigree of this kit, the underside is moulded in such a way as to allow the installation of batteries so maybe this car was issued in a motorised version at some point.
The final sprue shot shows the nice rubber tyres along with a (very) few metal bits as well as the transparencies (I hate these "wrap around" glass bits - not very realistic for the interior). and the decals which, largely, I won't be using. I have the intention of producing this car in a nice, fetching lemon yellow colour (how early '80s is that? ) which won't need the multi colour stripes - yuk!!!
Now to actually do something...

I've just spent half an hour painting everything in avery thin coat of H64 and it's amazing what details that couldn't be seen before have been brought out - I'm well impressed!!!
It is very, very thin, though, and will take another coat to get to be OK.

Great choice, Dan.
Regarding the origin of your M1; I can tell you the part layout and surface detail look almost identical to my

Ahh, it sounds like you need to have a browse around the History section! There's all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff that's been issued in an Airfix box.

It doesn't look particularly exciting, I know, but at least it shows I'm doing something! Here's quite a bit of primed BMW all nice and H64 - though it turns out quite a bit of that interior should actually be H64 anyway. I can now start to pick out some of the details in the cabin in other colours and then add another coat of H64 to those parts that need to stay that colour.

Now I've done a bit of dry brushing and a bit of colouring in for the instrument binnacle.
I'll photograph the whole lot together rather than each step bit by bit or it'll get very tedious!

Still doing bits and pieces of instruments and switches. The whoel lot also now needs a bit of a tidy up.
With a bit of luck I'll be able to start assembling soon, at which point I'll post some piccies.

I've airbrushed a coat of pale grey onto the outside of the bodyshell to serve as a coat of primer. When it's dried I'll decide whether to leave it like that or whether to add another coat before I start working on the "real" colour.

Ayup Dan...
I know it's primer, but your Brush's spitting a little. Time to get the wet and dry out! _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

True enough - the wet n dry's about 2 feet from where I'm sitting - I already knew before I'd started that it'd have to have a gentle sand back... it's been unused for about 3 months and always spits a bit when it gets going again, no matter how much flushing I do....

As for the rest of it, then now the underside has been painted up and what little detail there is highlighted. The front wheels have a basic steering mechanism (not connected to the steering wheel, though) and I've added the tyres to the wheels. I've also hammered (!!!) the wheels to the axles and mounted them. First time I've ever taken a hammer to a kit - but the axles are metal and the instructions told me to do it - honest guv!
The cabin is now painted and touched up, mainly in gloss black and matt grey along with a little silver:
Finally a few other bits and pieces have been worked on, including the instrument binnacle. Both Paula and I have given up trying to dry-brush the dial in the left hand corner as it's impossible to get to unless you're double jointed. Given how much of this you can actually see in the finished article, I reckon that this is good enough!

Tonight there's progress on the outside. There's a bit of pooling going on but nothing that can't be sorted. Here's the first coat of H99:
Brilliant, Eric!!!
