I havn't forgotten about this GB, but I've been a bit busy and away recently.
There are many Airfix kits that fall into this category, but one kit you don't often see is the Dassault Super Mystere B2 which will be my choice for this GB.
The kit first came out on 1972 and here's the box art.

I forgot to take a piccy of the sprue but there wern't many parts and all fitted together perfectly.
Look at that wing join! That's how I remember Airfix kits going together!!

Nice to see I'm not the only one building a French jet!

Nice clean moulding and work too!
You don’t seem to have any, or only small sink marks on your model.
My two GB kits are also moulded in silver-gray plastic and from around the same time, they are also nearly flawless.
I think the plastic was a better quality then, than the hard, shiny, pale gray plastic Airfix used later.
All the best from Jesper. |

You're right Jesper. These earlier moldings were a much harder plastic then the later year's offerings. There were two sink marks on the nose between the front of the canopy and the air intake -just visible in the photo.
I've also sorted out the colours courtesy of a couple of guys on Britmodeller. The Humbrol paints I'll use are H116, H117, H118, H28. These are light green, dark green, tan and camoflage grey, basically the same colours as USAF in the late 1960's-70's.
I can now get cracking with the painting.

The model was primed with Halfords primer and then I drew pencil lines where I want the camoflage colours to go.
Then using the three colours as per previous post I brushed on the first coat. Nice and streaky. Yum! The greens will probably need two more coats. Still, it's a bit more interesting than BMF!

Very nice looking indeed! (Every time I see this I kick myself for not grabbing that Super Mystere for 99 cents on the 'bay.) _________________ “Build what YOU want, the way YOU want to, and above all, have fun.”

Thanks people!
I've added the H28 to the undersurfaces but I think I need to leave it for a day or so as the greens are taking ages to dry off. _________________ If you can't Dodge it, Ram it!!!!!!!! |

That is looking really sweet BAC!
i love the look of the aircraft, has the same feel to it as the F-100. good choice for the cold war as it is very evocative of the era. |

I can't wait to see it. I'm on a work PC and the only picture (image?) I can see is the box art.
Note to self: Must get Internet at home asap! _________________ So many kits, so little time |

Hi Tim,
I think the reason why you can see the box art and not the other build images is because the box top image is on the ATF domain. The others are from my 'Picturetrail' account and maybe your work PC is locked against such image hosting sites.

That's probably the issue. Our work firewall blocks some photo hosting sites (though not all!).

I've got to the library today so I can see the pics. Great wing to fuselage joint (if only they were all like that) and great camouflage. I can't remember seeing one of these built so I'm looking forward to seeing it when its finished. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

2nd and final coat of the greens and the tan, then a coat of Klear. The pilot's been added and the canopy fitted. It will need a second coat on the frame.
