Here's the kit I'll be building.

I'll only post the picture of the box for now, but I'm really looking forward to starting this one!

Here we go with this one too!

The instructions

The decals

which give two options, either a "Wolf Pack" or an aircraft based on the USS Enterprise.  Not sure at this stage which one I'll be doing.

And finally, the sprues

This is going to take some unravelling!  It seems that the sprue was moulded as one piece, then folded to fit it in the box.  I can't unfold the sprues, so I think I'll have to cut them apart!

Many moons ago I built a 1/48 Italeri Tomcat which came out quite well, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the two compare!

It's good to really get going with this kit.  I've got the cockpit built

I've also got the wings built and primed, as well as the horizontal tailplane.  All these will be painted before assembly so that they will hopefully still move after assembly!

Again, no pics to show at the moment.  The cockpit is ready to be installed, and, while I was away, Dan was spraying the white on his Skyray and while he had the airbrush out sprayed the white on the wings and horizontal tailplane, so they're now ready for the next step.

I haven't stopped this build at all, I just haven't got any pics to post - I'll try and get some together tonight.

I've intalled the cockpit, and the wings, canards and horixontal tail are all ready to go in.  So, I think the next step is getting the fuselage together!

A little later than promised, but here are the photos I've managed to get together!

Firstly, the painted Horizontal tailplane.  It was sprayed with Revell spray white, and the leading edges are done in H11.

Then, I dry fitted the wings and canards.  They are painted in the same way, but the tops of the wings is H129.

Now came the fun part of trying to get the fuselage together without sticking the moving parts!  I think I managed it!!!

The seams need a bit of work, but all in all, it's starting to look like a Tomcat!

Coming along nicely. It seems a lot less trouble than the Starfighter.

This one certainly seems to be less trouble than the Starfighter!!

The nose needed a bit of work to make the seams flush which was no where near as much work as the Starfighter.  I've got the engines on so this one is nearly ready for priming.

Hi Paula

What colour did you paint the cockpit floor and walls with ? I have the first edition release of the Tomcat which has a somewhat lacking paint guide.

Thanks

I seem to think they were painted H27.  The seats were H33, and the pilots flying suits were H116 or 117.

This one isn't going to be finished this year.  Still, it'll be one of the ones to get finished next year!

Well, I'm getting on with this one now, and I will get it done soon (I hope!!)

I'm going to do it with the canopy open, so it'll be on the ground.  As the belly is white, I'll spray that, so it's not on it's gear yet, nor is the canopy completely on.

Still, this was it after it's first coat of H64.

It needs a second coat, then I'll start spraying the belly (including the landing gear bays!

I finished priming the Tomcat last night, and have started spraying the belly white.

Here it is after the first coat, but while it was still wet.  That's why it's still on the newspaper in our spraying area.

I'll hopefully get a second coat on later today.

It's amazing how much I can do when I really put my mind to it!

The belly has been sprayed white, and I'm now in the process of spraying the landing gear, and the missiles (I'm going to put the Phoenix missiles on this one) white.

I've also painted the top H129.

That's had two coats, and now it's time to start on the rest of the colour scheme.

Here it is ready for the black nose to be painted.

There's also some tape on the fin that has now been used to tape the top of the fin which is yellow.

I'm really pleased with the progress I've made on it today!

I've now applied two coats of H33 to the nose and the canopy, and two coats of H24 to the top of the fin.

The landing gear is also ready to go on, and the missiles are now half painted,
