I will be building a 1/72 Lightning F1A in 56 Sqn markings (see Hangartime's box art for details) from Modeldecal sheet no.1.
I'm not sure how long the kit's been in the stash but I bought the decal sheet in...er...1985 and I've had the kit longer than that. I'll post some pics in the next day or two.

If it's any consolation Tim, I'd probably had my Jaguar for as long as that
Still, it's one of the things I love about group builds - an excuse to build kits that might otherwise have been left on the pile. |

I agree. It also gives you an incentive to get it finished, although I don't think I'll finish mine as quickly as you finished your Jaguar.
Incidentally, my Airfix Jaguar has only been in the stash since 1991! _________________ So many kits, so little time |

| I have this kit too. It ispart built and I plan to paint it in this scheme too and have every intention of completing it when I get round to it and get the bottle up to have a go at the natural metal finish. The lightning is one of my favourite jets |

OK, here we go.
Here,s the box
If you look closely you'll notice there's something missing from this picture, can you work out what it is?
Nice blue instructions...
views of the sprues..
..with the Firestreaks and pylons that were missing from the box art.
These are the kit markings, but I will be using these...
The 56 Sqn markings are on the right.
Hope the pictures are OK as I'm new to all this kind of thing. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

It's all good - I remember building the Airfix version of this some time ago - part of the 90th? Anniversary set. Nice little kit. _________________ the evolution of the modern car is such it now ressembles a toaster. |

| As to what's missing, shouldn't the fin and spine be black? |

There were 111sqn Lightnings with black fins and spines but I was referring to the missing missiles
Work has started by removing the large snap-fix locating pins and painting the cockpit interior.
Hope to post more pics soon. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

A bit more progress to report. I've painted the pilot...
I've sanded the nose cone to make it a bit more pointed,
and I've assembled the wings and fuselage.
There are some gaps that need filling but all in all I'm quite pleased with the fit.
I also appear to be getting better at editing my photos. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

With the main airframe assembled I'm now ready for filling and sanding.
I'll post some more pics soon. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

A bit more to report this week. I've done some filling and sanding and it looks OK so far. I dare say I'll find more to do after the first coat of primer goes on.
At the moment it's standing on the undercarriage of a Hasegawa Lightning as this has the correct pattern wheels. the kit wheels are more suitable for the EE P1B.(Now there's a thought. )
The nose was weighted with Milliput and fishing weights. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

I do have another F1A in the stash that I'm thinking of building as the P1B in it's early days with the small fin and no ventral tank. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

I've given it a coat of primer but there are still some areas around the back end that need a bit of work. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

Here it is after the first coat of primer. As you can see, the area around the rear end needs some more rubbing down.
I'll post more pics when the second coat goes on. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

After another session of filling and sanding I've given it a second coat of Hu64. Time to move on to the top coat and that lovely silver paint.
I can't help thinking that if I'd done a camouflaged Lightning F3 it might have been finished by now. _________________ So many kits, so little time |
