Here is the box.

...and what's inside.

Apparently made in England.

I will NOT be making the banana nosed recon version.  I will be building the righteous commie killing version that should have been on the boxtop (with a burning MiG heading for the dirt).

I’m looking forward to your build Dancho.
It has been ages since I saw a build version of this kit.

All the best from Jesper.

You and me both then brother! Sadly this boxing dated from the time when it was PC to eschew what were considered violent box art images. How could a Banshee just be poodling around taking pictures?!

This kit reminds me of the days when a tiny set of sprues could be found lurking in the corner of a large box - might even dig mine out of the stash and give it a whirl.

You sure don't see many of these kits around!

That'll be ABFCGeorge's Mig then Dancho!

looking forward to seeing this one. Don't know much about the Banshee, except that it has a look that is very evocative of the period.  Didn't know Airfix had a kit either.

I don't remember where I used the decals that I cut out of this sheet.  I know I did--but where they ended up is a mystery.

The decals look good-- but the only way to know for sure is to test them.

This is a part from an eBay kit that I acquired as part of a lot.  This (and other) kits are used by me to test paint and decals.  In this case, the result is absolutely great--no need for aftermarket decals!

Don't wish to be rude, Dancho, but why did the USN change the insignia star for red Y-fronts?

Y-fronts are worn by recon Banshees.  The real Banshees wear boxers.

No no.  That can cause wailing under G's.  It's a common problem with Banshees, though.

Nothing exciting-- just a coat of dark gull gray for the cockpit interior.

Taking it slow.

And here is a lovely example of using decals to do all the hard work of finishing instrument panels and those annoying seat belts.

No pilot on this build.  The aircrew is where he should be in 1952.  At the O Club getting hammered!

Great start! When does this kit date from? Interesting that it has a proper cockpit 'tub' and some OK detail by the looks of things.

Did anyone ever do a RCN version of this bird?

I re-thought the red portion of the seat.  The Banshee is just not colorful.  After looking at photos of the real deal I repainted the red portion black.

I thought I'd post an update photo just to reassure the GB leader that I'm still plugging away.

Nothing really.  Just glued the fuselage together.  I put two lead fishing weights in the nose, glued them with thick super glue.

The fit on this kit is very good.  Compares well to Hasegawa or Italeri from that time (1980).

...and now for some COMPLAINING!

Photobucket has decided to follow the rest of the computer industry and fix something that wasn't broke.  They have mangled their site until I can hardly use it, in the same manner as eBay and other sites run by moronic fiends.

Lordy.

It is prettier now, and things "fade" in and out.  It is also "idiot friendly" because all of the scary URL's are hidden away.

Yippee!

I would also like to add a generic diss aimed at Creative Labs.

Yo, CL.  You been dissed.
