As no one seems to be doing any German items I shall do a 109 for starters.

It will be the ancient 109G in a blister pack, no.01006-1,  which does not appear in the kit listings.   It bears the date of 1964 on the fuselage.  On the back of the header it is marked C  Airfix Products Ltd 1973.

The contents of the pack.

Work started.    I am doing minimal detailing of the cockpit,  limited to some frames,  an instrument panel and a stick.    The pilot, although a bit under scale,  will suffice as not a great deal will be seen through the canopy.   The prop is also somewhat emaciated but will be used.

What colour have you painted the cockpit interior and wheel wells?

Tom,

It`s painted in Lifecolour acrylic UA071/RLM02.
It seems browner in the indoor photos than it does outside in the natural light.

Wow! You do fine work fast! I had never wondered what colour Germans used for interiors - just figured it was some sickly green like everyone else (UK, US) uses.

You've made me want to do a plane now.

Thanks for sharing your work. Great build!

I thought cockpit interiors were generally RLM 66 by 1945 - a very dark grey-green (Hu 92).   No personal knowledge, just what I've read elsewhere on this site and here:

Quite possibly,  but we are doing summer 1944 time scale.

Oops, sorry Roger - a typo - I had 44 in my head but hit 45!

Urban Fredriksson says RLM66 from 'mid war' onwards, whatever that means.   Anyway, clearly you're doing your plane in whatever colours you see fit (and fair enough) - my comment was more aimed as an FYI for James Russell.

In the absence of a pot of RLM 02 or the will to follow the arcane mixing recipe given by the Stockholm IPMS for a Humbrol equivalent I've just done the wheel wells in my Fw190 in Hu31 as a 'good enough' greeny-grey!

That is probably as good as any.    I have used several acrylics purporting to be RLM02 but,  guess what,   none of them were the same.

I have done the instrument panel in RLM66 which I normally use for German subjects

Having being unable to get at it all week until Saturday and today it is now almost finished.

I still need to make the mass balances for the ailerons,  but that may be easier said than done.

The white line below the front port side panel is Kristal clear filling a gap.   It will be painted when dry.
The pitot tube was a bit of stretched sprue.

Paints used were Aeromaster 1025/RLM74 Graugrun,  1026/RLM75 Grauviolett,  Lifecolor UA074/RLM76 Light Blue,  UA051/RLM70 Black Green,  UA140/RLM04 Yellow,  UA071/RLM02 Grey and Humbrol HU34 White.

Decals used were those from the kit, very close cut and the swastikas came from Almark sheet A35.

The spiral on the spinner was hand painted and needs one or two touch ups.

Well,  I had a go at the mass balances.   Not brilliant but will pass if you don`t look too closely.

They were made of a length of 0.25mm pvc coated copper wire which is very flexible.   One end was slightly bent and a blob of CA placed on the end and given a squirt of accelerator.    It was then filed and cut to an approximate shape.   A hole was drilled in the aileron and the other end of the balance was cut to the required length and fitted to the aileron with a drop of CA.

A bit of filing was done on the drop tank to try to get a slightly more realistic shape and the paint work was tidied up.

I tried a powder based exhaust stain but I`m not sure about the way it turned,   all very new to me.

It is supposed to depict an aircraft of 9/JG26,   based at Villacoublay-Nord around D-Day.

Great

But what a skinny pair of main wheels.
