Running a bit late but finally getting underway having decided to build the Tiger 01308. Anyone out there NOT built one of these?
Here are the bits and pieces:
Lack of time means an OOB build with a little bit of extra detail. Suggestions welcome! |

I've managed to get some work done on the Tiger. Here's the current state of play:
I've beefed up the hull side plates where they form the attachment points for the towing shackles. Might have to remove the MG ball mounting though and trim it down a bit
The beginnings of the Rommelkiste can be seen on the turret along with the result of a misguided decision to add a plasticard plate to represent the turret roof. Now have to rebuild all the roof detail |

Progress so far:
Added most of the detail back to the turret roof and finished the Rommelkiste. Fitted the wheels (and tracks but took them off again; they looked awful ) Wheels look like someone stole the hubcaps
Next back to the hull - mudflaps, stowage and eventually some exhaust shrouds. |

SITREP on the Tiger.
Still to do: tool stowage and bosch headlamp exhaust shields towing cables
Just like the real thing, I suspect this Tiger will miss the D-Day deadline but hope to get construction completed in time. |

Quite incredible to see what a 'little bit of extra detail' can do to this kit
Absolutely splendid job so far, looking forward to seeing it finished
Cheers

You won't be the only build late for the big show. My paratroops may be ready for DRAGOON, or they may only be in time for MARKET-GARDEN.
This beautiful Tiger model reminds me of my own failed attempt at the same thing. Did you use superglue to attach the front mudguards? I used regular liquid plastic cement on mine and the guards curved up weirdly. |

Hi realthing.
That really is quite something!
Amazed and impressed with your skill with plastic card.
Congratulations,

Got to agree with the guys.....You have made something very special out of that Tiger!
Are you copying a Dragon kit by any chance? I notice you have the loader's hatch set rather proud of the new turret deck.....IIRC it should be almost plush with it.

Exceptional work on the old Airfix Tiger. Already hard to believe it's the same kit.
Are you keeping the rubber band tracks? |

First off, many thanks to all for the kind comments, they've really encouraged to get this finished although I still fear it may only be ready for fighting James' paras at Market-Garden!
Some specific responses:
| Quote: | | Did you use superglue to attach the front mudguards? I used regular liquid plastic cement on mine and the guards curved up weirdly. |
I used Revell Contacta to tack them in position then sealed them with some Plastic Magic, a liquid glue that sticks just about anything. Not sure whether that was the secret - could just be that I used rather thick plastic card which helped resist glue attack

Well spotted sarge! Tbh, I had planned to recess the hatch in the new roof a la Airfix original but found I couldn't get a neat enough 'hole' so filled it in, thinned down the old hatch as much as possible, glued it on and hoped for the best. And you are twice right I was indeed comforting myself with web shots of the Dragon 1/35 kit which does have the raised hatch (although my conscience and photo refs told me it was probably wrong).
| Quote: | | Are you keeping the rubber band tracks? |
Yes, Ben, that's the plan, dreadful though they are. I'm not sure what other options I have as I have never been able to scratch build tracks and haven't found any suitable substitutes I hope that the mudflaps make them less visible, especially if I photograph it from above
And again, thanks for all the encouraging comments! RT |

I'm afraid work has stopped play recently so only just got back to work on the Tiger. I have decided to declare the building phase finished although there are still some things missing (including the hubcaps) Here it is, ready for undercoating (and the inevitable reworking once I see just how rough it really looks)
One conclusion I have reached is that (to me) the kit sits a bit too low - 1-2mm perhaps - looks as if the suspension has collapsed. It reminds me of the Tiger at Vimoutiers http://www.normandybattlefields.com/img25_vimoutier.htm |

Man, that looks great.....You've done an exceptional job of improving the kit and the tracks even look pretty good to me.
All the best

Many thanks for the comments guys, it's inspired me to carry on and get the undercoating done. Pics below. I normally undercoat in Halfords grey primer but from experience know that white works better with dark yellow. Paint used was Citadel Skull White if anyone is interested to know.
The fantastic crewman is from the AB Figures range, thought you'd all like to see him before I ruin him with paint! Thanks to my mate Steve, btw, for unselfishly sending him to me. |
