I'm going to be a bit of a late starter.
Because of family issues I really didn't think I would have the time to participate, however having decided that, I went and completed the 1/72 FW 190 A8 over a weekend in mid July and then bought myself a Dora to go with it. Seeing as there is still a month to go with the GB I thought I'd make the Dora 'official'.
Here are the bits and pieces, decals are faulty though, grey/white marks on all the black Balken Kreutz and the tail band, so will be looking to the spares box to replace them.
All the best.

Best of luck finding replacement decals. I had a similar problem with my decals, apart from that it's a great little kit, one of my favourites. _________________ "It's life Jim, but not as we know it!" - Dr McCoy

| I forked out for an EagleCals sheet (72060) which was well worth the £6.50 - came with markings for four aircraft and all the stencils you could ever want! Good quality too, and a really detailed full colour sheet with colour info and photos of the original aircraft. Worth it if you plan more Doras in the pipeline |

| The decals which came with my starter gift set were in part rubbish and so I've asked for a replacement set from Airfix. Your more than welcome to have any that become spare. |

Hi Tom, thanks for your kind offer, I've already emailed a request for a replacement set of my own! I'm also considering doing something a little bit different with my Dora which will require a set of red stars........
XN923, which set did you get? This is a nice little kit and I could easily be tempted to do more. I've got some Eagle Strike and Aeromaster sets, but no D9s in amongst them, only A6,A7 and A8's.
Cheers

Well hats off to Airfix, they don't acknowledge your request, but they're pretty quick off the mark when it comes to supplying the replacement part!
Much improved decal sheet received this morning, it's only a couple of weeks since I requested it.
I'm not sure what to do now, an oob build as originally intended, or the captured VVS Baltic Fleet aircraft I was going to do as an alternative. Might have to get another one!

Hi Chris, glad you got your replacement decals. The D-9 set I got was EC#60, which is available in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32. It looks like EagleCal does four or five sheets with D-9s on, in whole or in part. I was delighted with mine - as much for the colour information as the decals themselves. There are some really 'different' schemes. If you've seen my build thread you'll get the idea. On the same sheet is another Dora, White 11, with camouflage of RLM 82 Bright Green and RLM 83 Dark Green over RLM 76 Light Blue, which also has bare metal gun access panels making for a very individual looking aircraft, which I fancy having a go at at some stage. £6.50 seems a lot for a decal sheet, but as you have enough for four aircraft, at £1.63 each it starts to look like better value. |

So anyway I did get another and seeing as it was contraband (I'm not allowed to buy any more until the stash is noticeably reduced ) I successfully smuggled it into the house
Building them in parallel, one will have the kit decals built straight oob, the other will be the Russian captured aircraft, also an oob build for speed, but with after market decals.
Lifecolor RLM 66 painted on the interior, with brown leather head rest and front cockpit surround, not that you can see it!
Has anyone built a more detailed cockpit for one of these and cut away the canopy to make an open cockpit? Must admit I was tempted to have a go, but time constraints put me off. Might have a go on another though, especially as I just invested in some after market 'Dora' decals.

Well done for avoiding the blockade!
Looking nice so far. It's always pleasing how quickly this kit goes together.
As regards the interior, if I was doing an open cockpit version I think I'd be tempted to get an aftermarket canopy, as cutting away the fuselage top and retaining it in a useable way would be beyond my skills. Alternatively, some kits have two canopies, one open and one closed, such as the Aoshima Ta-152 , and using a spare from one of these might be easier than trying to work with the Airfix canopy. |

Thanks XN923, always a frisson of excitement when the kit police get thwarted!
I've got a couple of Falcon Clear-Vax-Canopies which might be usefully employed on this, rather than trying to make use of the carved off bits, would make it far less important to take the pieces off cleanly too.
Cheers

Possibly this should go in the 'What's the stupidest mistake you ever made category', but my build is on hold whilst I get a new nozzle for my airbrush. Worked late at finishing a kit in the week and dismantled and cleaned my airbrush before going to bed. Just went to do the pre-shading on my D9's and no nozzle. I obviously reassembled it without fitting it, or dropped it before putting the end cap on. Turned the house upside down and still can't find it
£17.99 for a new one! |

Progress again, though having two nozzles doesn't seem to have speeded up my spraying!
This is the VVS captured 'Dora'
Still some detailing required, but getting there. Not much daylight here at the moment, so used desk lamp and daylight bulb, so a bit harsh. Will try to do better pics when it's completed. |

Lovely result! Is it me or does it look even more ominous in Soviet markings?
Aye
