I have!  Sort of.  I have an old boxing of the F-8

No decals though, sadly.

Not started yet Tom - I intend clearing at least one of the two Railway GB builds first and I'm waiting on decals for the Fw190 before I decide on a colour scheme.

Soon though!

Ok - evidence of some progress at last!

Last week I got round to planning out the build.  Thanks to some top generosity from the Sarge it's going to be an Fw 190 Hagelkorn BV246 glide bomb carrier as per:

http://www.luft46.com/missile/bv246.html

This will use a donated sprue and decals from a Revell kit - thanks Andy!

I'd also acquired a set of PE for an Academy kit - but looking at the cockpit section, it was going to be very difficult to use - the Airfix kit has a smaller opening (thicker walls in places, I think) and lacked a tub to provide a foundation for much of the PE.   And even if I did shoehorn it all in, it would be invisible and a complete waste of time, energy and the material.   Then I found the old Airfix mag article in the reference section, so I'm following that approach, using the PE bits as a guide for what could be added.

This is the result:

And guess what?  It's all but invisible!

But it didn't take very long and cost nothing so that's OK!

Major construction finished and now to the paint shop.

Usually I use painted decal film to line the canopy and glue it on last, after painting, but I couldn't see a way of easily masking off this one except with the canopy itself.  My first try at masking a canopy - fingers crossed!

Also shown is the glide bomb - as you can see, they were pretty damn large!

Ayup Digs...

Top work.
Was the bomb part of the kit or scratched? the wings and tail look Plasticard. Or was it carved from solid?

It's from the Revell kit Fea:

Generously donated (along with the decals) by Andy in return for a single missing strut from a Matchbox seaplane!   A deal so good I still feel slightly embarrassed by it!

What Digs fails to mention here is that the seaplane in question was my Matchbox 1/72 Supermarine Stranraer.....I can now build it OOTB with no faffing about making struts, a total bargain in my opinion!

Good luck with the continuing build!

All the best

Is that glide bomb in the correct position?
Bit of a squeeze for the undercarriage to retract.

It's a little bit too far forward Nigel (albeit only laid in place for the photo), but here lies a minor problem.

The Revell sprue for the BV246 also came with the universal bomb mount for the Fw 190. Both Revell and Airfix have notches for the attachment clamps at the same spacing, that matches the locating holes in the missile. So at first glance they seemed interchangeable. The Revell mount is much larger than the Airfix one though, and wouldn't fit on the underside of the Airfix fuselage without surgery so I went for the easy option and fitted the Airfix mount.   Except that its clamps are further forward than the Revell one so the mounted Hagelkorn wings will be too far forward for their supporting struts to meet the Fw 190 wing mounting points and will also foul the wheel wells...

I think I'll end up filling the locating holes on the missile and re-drilling them a bit further forward.

Paul

Good progress on this (well, progress - remains to be seen whether it's good or not) over the weekend.  The base painting of both the Fw 190 and the missile are finished and I've made a start on the decals.   As I said, Sgt Squarehead's generosity extended to the Revell decal sheet (and a photocopy of the instructions too!) and they're lovely!   But god is there a lot of them.  The haselkorn has eight separate decals by itself (as many as the original Airfix A8 sheet I'd imagine!) and the call-out numbers for plane and missile run into the 70s...

Though rather surprisingly German efficiency doesn't extend to getting all the numbers right

No camera until Tuesday at the soonest though so piccies will have to wait.

Paul

PS - just remembered my mobile and I also just figured out that it has a very nifty autofocus function for this sort of thing*.

*i think the phone may have come with something known as 'instructions' but of course I worked this out by pressing buttons haphazardly and then wondering what the bleeping noise it had never made before signified.
