| Well one month to go. A lot of time for everyone to acquire their build material and for stragglers to join. |

| Consider me straggly. I have the D-9 and the A-8 in 72nd scale so may do both. |

XN923 and Richard threads have been set up. Waiting for Adrian to join up as he had a duo of Fw190's in his bag yesterday!
On another topic......
Can anybody tell me what the nearest RLM numbers are to
50% HU28 + 50% HU65
And
60% HU65 + 40% HU64
I'd rather buy the ready mixed xtracrylic RLM paints than faff about trying to get the right shade. I'm slightly colour blind in one eye anyway so I will never get the right shade mixing it myself.

I need to open them up to check out what paint schemes they're in. Is it possible to do that 'splodge' effect without an airbrush? _________________ Cheers,

Ayup Adrian..
You could use some 'fingers' of bathroom sponge dipped in paint with the excess squeezed out, rather like Drybrushing, to achieve the same effect. if you have 'Fingers' of muliple width and random shape, i guess you could do anything... _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

Another way of doing it is to snip across the bristles of an old paintbrush leaving them very short & spiky; then use the drybrushing method listed above. _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

That gives more like the stippled effect on Me109s and Stukas though, rather than the 'blotches' you get on 190s.
Like the idea of the sponges though. I've heard that one before, but had forgotten about it. Guess I'm in then! _________________ Cheers,

It might be easier to identify the RLM's from the unit and period _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Ayup Adrian...
Eduard bought out a set of blotches in a Re-Usable PE fret about twelve to fifteen months ago. you could either buy one off their website, or make your own using thin (cereal Box) cardboard. trouble is, you have to make your own holes... or just tear a hole in ordinary paper, and work round that... _________________ Airfix Member 022... 50% HU28 + 50% HU65 Spring 1944
60% HU65 + 40% HU64 Winter 1945
Is that enough info Ratch? |

RLM 76 in both cases. Late war German paints = "close enough is good enough" in most cases. It tickles me that they ended up the war painting their a/c in colours approximating RAF Battle of Britain camo (RLM 81/82/84). They'd even given up on splinter camo by then |

I wasn't going to join in until I got a few other things out of the way, but the pressure from Tom ...
So, I have an F-8 that's in a bag, a D-9 in a bag (missing prop and spinner ) and an A-8 from the Aces series ("Pips" Priller).
Might as well get them all done - they're nice, easy builds.
There are two things that I'll do with all of these:
1. True Details cockpit; and
2. Falcon Clearvax canopies.
The A/F, in particular, has a dubious canopy/fuselage "panel line". It should be straight, but it curves upwards towards the rear, so that the canopy appears to be shorter than it should be. |

| It makes it easier to find that way. But beware of toppeling if your beast is stacked upon 1/72 kits! Its a risk assessment world! |
