I've just been setting up at Model Mania, Locomotion, Shildon, where I bumped into one of the traders.

I've known Barrie for many years and sell him the odd kit. Last year I sold him an Airfix Wellington BIII in a standard 4B style box. ( The one after the Red Stripe edition. ) He sold it on to another collector, who told him that there were no instructions. Barrie said that he'd try and get some. The guy said that the original instructions were in red print. I had 3 of this issue ( Still have 2 ) and neither has a red instruction sheet. The guy said that it was very rare and that all these kits had red instructions. Barrie queried this, but the guy said that he was an authority on old model kits and this release had to have Red instructions to make it authentic.

Now, in the dim and distant past, I seem to remember seeing Blue ones as well as the Black ones and I think I saw one with a red leaflet in the box for returns. Other than that, I can't remember any red instructions at all. I started building these things just before the original issue Wellington came out, so it's a while now.

Have any of you ever heard of Red instruction leaflets? I don't even remember this issue being rare.

I'll see him again tomorrow. If you have any info, please let me know.

Cheers,

Chuck

If I remember correctly, they were black and white and red all over.

Hey! That's great. I've not seen one of those before. It was a Red Stripe kit then. The kit I sold was definitely a 4B.

Thanks for that info.

My Type 3 has red instructions as well. I don't have a Type 4 to check, though.
