The Boston will always envoke great memories of glue stained fingers, paint on kitchen table and the box art was'nt the only thing that struck me as mum noticed the paint!
On to the build.

In the box. This is an older kit with little flash and not too shabby.

I am useing the plans from scale models made by John Alcorn inked by Bently. Very, very nice.
What was Airfix thinking when the cowlings on the kit are way too round and have a very sharp curve, the real a/c has a nice gentle slope. Talking plans, the overall shape of this kit is not too bad but there are a number of concerns, cowlings being very noticable as is the front glasshouse. I have altered the cowling useing a dremel and appling a meduim file to cut basic shape and finished with a balsa curve with sand paper as a final guide.

Smaller fixes are the wheels. a tad smaller in circumferance but way too thin in width. A very fixable sollution was found by use of plasic sheet that will be bigger than wheel and and glued and filed to size and finshed with wet and dry paper.

Here we have an interesting pic. The good news is the a/c kit has the undercart under load. How many times have we seen the NOT under load whe you have every ordernace on the kit? LOL
I have title the pic oops. If you look at the pic you will see that the under cart leg looks mis matched, that is because it is. Some can live with that... can I ? Yup.... or can I? yes/no yes/no aaaaaagh
let's wait and see...

Coming along nicely there, don't angst too much over discrepancies between the kit and the drawings. Long experience has taught me that either a probably not entirely accurate.
Looking forward to see more.

Wow! A good solid start Dennie!
Welcome aboard mate!
When you've got 5 minutes, why don't you drop a line in here and tell us a bit about yourself?
Cheers!

Hi all
What have I been doing? Well it seems not a lot, but I have managed to make a few bits and bobs.
Gotta agree that plans and kits may not line up and just looking at some refs and plans of the undercart doors, real pics of a/c and plans have fantasy origins from some artist.

Well, I've been beavering away, chipping here, slashing, cutting and really haveing a good time.
Just makeing the office and rear gunner station looka bit more "busy".
After looking some pics I decided to make a life reaft that is in position behind pilot. Just rolled up a bit of loo paper glued with balsa cement and painted. Now I know what to use when cought short!

Another busy look, wont see much when canopy is on but better than a hole. All I used was a scan of a panel and super glued it on a alloy panel. Easy pezzy.

Hi all
Had a go at painting the little pilot man and what a disapointment. I really thought with all the great pilot painting here it would be a "piece of cake"!
I need to "brush" up on my painting skills I think.
Any hoo, I am really impressed by the Blenheim builds here and I may be able to do one as well as the Boston. Got one cheep and been fiddling about about with it, as you do, and built one as a kid and lots of nostalgia about this kit. The public library had a book on the Airfix Blenheim and I tried to emulate what the buider did to varying degrees of success. Feel like a kid again. LOL |

Hi Deniez, I'm doing the Boston too & also considered doing a life raft (I was going to make mine fro Blu Tack!) but assumed there would be some kind of mechanism to stop it sliding forward? A hatch or a cupboard or something? As mine's also being painted in a desert scheme I'm guessing a life raft would be pretty low down on their list of priorities so in the end didn't include it- Anyway, just wondering if you'd found some decent reference pictures? _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

Hi all
After a brief spell from the Havoc, I am now at the point of shooting paint. Due to the amount of fileing and sanding the frony glass house, I sanded a big hole in it!!
This will now be a painted nose of the RAAF.
