The IPMS (UK) Airfix Modelling SIG May 2009 Newsletter.

The SIG has been running for a few months now and things have settled down, so time for an update. The SIG has been growing steadily, with a membership which is global. We have been actively raising the profile of the SIG across various internet forums and with the IPMS and Airfix. The SIG will attend several shows this year, culminating in Scale Model World. We hope to expand the website, with a member’s gallery and other features. We are looking at several other ideas including merchandise such as t-shirts and the possibility of a 2010 calendar. If possible we would like to do some charitable work this year and raise some money for a worthy cause.

As with any venture, the SIG is only as strong as its membership. I’d like to thank the members whose considerable dedication and effort have resulted in the success the SIG has achieved to date. Please get involved and participate, all suggestions for events and activities are welcomed. If nothing else, come along and say hello at one of the shows!

Shows.
Shropshire Model Show

The SIG attended the Shropshire Model Show at Cosford in April in collaboration with the Airfix Tribute Forum. The show was a great success and everyone had a good time, many thanks to the members who attended and displayed models. The SIG table appears in a photo in the latest Model Aircraft Monthly.

Hendon Scale Model Show
The next show the SIG will attend is the Hendon Scale Model Show which is on Sunday 31st May 2009. If members wish to help with the display, or bring along models, please make a post in the thread on the SIG forum linked below.

Scale Model World
The big show of the year is Scale Model World at Telford, to be held the 7/8th of November 2009. The SIG has started planning the models for the display, the theme of which will be “The World of Airfix 1949-2009”, to mark the 60th Anniversary of Airfix producing kits. The plan is to represent models of each of the major genres of model kits released in each decade, along with a display of the box style evolution.
The criteria for the display are simple, the model is made by the SIG member and represents the kit in the spirit in which it was originally released (so no conversions to other types etc). Models can already be built, or can be built for the display as part of the SIG SMW’09 GB which will start shortly on the forum.

Website.
We would like to start a gallery of Airfix models built by SIG members. If you would like to have any pictures of your models included, please send them to admin@airfixmodellingsig.org as an attachment, preferably in .jpg format. Please include the following information on the models – kit name, decal scheme details, any other pertinent information such as aftermarket parts used/ conversions done etc. The pictures will only be used on the website and forum, each picture will be credited to the member.

On behalf of the SIG committee,
Rich
SIG Leader.
