Just wondering if anyone else noticed that Airfix have released some kits, quite recently (nonew tooling) but are no longer available. So you get the following message

Sorry the Messerschmitt Bf109E-4/E-1 1:48 is no longer available...
We're sorry, the website has sold out of this item and we're not expecting any more stock.
Your local model retailer may still have this item - search for your local stockist here.
Alternatively, search the website for similar items.

Airfix site notes this message for boxing of A05120, yet a boxing for A05122b is available (E/N trop). Interestingly, the A05120 boxing contains trop parts also for the 'E' variant and a telescopic ZFR3A gunsight (used by Galland - another 'original new tool' issue with a seperate issue number again). I note this is also the case with A04016 - Bristol Blenheim Mk1 yet this is available with boxing A04017 and A04059 in other marks?

Is this a short run to 'test the market' or a case of progressively working through variants and updating the kits? I'm surprised at the speed they came and went and wondered if it was a 'get in quick' due to a limited run? Can anyone clarify?

Thanks

Time goes by quicker than you think.
These kits are just going on the 3 to 5 year rotation.
Its costs Airfix money to keep kits in storage and they have around 250 items in their catalogue at any one time so it is prudent to limit stock in storage and rotate even recently newer kits

Definitely not limited run, but much more efficient housekeeping/stock management than in the past.

And a quicker amortisation of Capital outlay for the new tools. Jez Brook was saying that many of the new tools pay for themselves in a year.

Thanks, how timely was Jez Brooks' post!

I thought they were fairly new as it was the first I'd seen - I'd say also I may not have kept up with developments which is more than likely. Good to know how things operate.

Thanks all, I had no idea.
