Right here we go. I plan to build the whirlwind on this:

This is the comic that got me into aeroplanes in the first place. It was purchased at a car boot in 1994, & I've been hooked ever since. It's the earliest childhood memory I have of aeroplanes & I've read it so many times I'm constantly amazed it still exists as it was very, very well travelled when I was 5 or 6!

I was planning a Fulmar, but at present I'm stuck for a drill for the turret & as I received the whirlwind this morning I'm hoping this qualifies!  The scheme is purely spurious as the whirlwind was never deployed to Russia according to any book I've got, so hopefully I have the go ahead to build a russian front Westland Whirlwind?

I've got a copy of that one too!

Are you fitting the 37mm or maybe something bigger?

There are a few photos of the mocked up installation about. It would have made quite an impact in a ground attack or anti-shipping role.

Here's where I'm at so far. I love this kit already! Thanks to a kindly ebay seller I gt a printed detail set included with the kit- not something I've used before but I'm quite pleased with the result.

Main assembly now done

I'm going to try & hunt down a suitable gun for the front in my spares box, but if nothing comes up I'm going to go for the standard 4 machine gun arrangement as seen on the first whirlwind.
Lots of tidying up to do & a bit of filling before the next stage.
