Hi,

For this build I'll be using the Su-27.  It would be in an alternative history of what-if after the collapse of the Soviet Union some of their aircraft manufacturers teamed up with BAe or EADS (think that's how you spell that) and then to counter the Middle East threat, where mostly aircraft are used in ground support, they produce together a dedicated turbo-prop version of the Su-27.

This turbo-prop though would be more of the 'free-turbine' type but following a design that EDIT: Metro-Vick had invented but being more modern in design.

The idea being along the lines of the small agile battlefield aircraft concept but in a bigger package.

Obligatory shot of the box and model (dry fitted):

These are some of the parts I will use for this project, these are spare from my C-130J kit which is getting a set of Jennifer Wright (desmojen on britmodeller) corrected engine nacelles and props:

The idea is to expand on a previous project I had done some years ago, only this time using the Su-27 as it's bigger.  I really like the center line thrust idea (as in Do.335) and had wondered what an up-to-date one would look like so I built this:

Since then I've read a few things that happened in real life like the origins of turbo-props.  A really interesting book to read about this is Turbojet-History and Development 1930-1960 Vol.1 Great Britain & Germany by Antony L.Kay.  On another forum, AEHS (Aircraft Engine Historical Society) was a thread about what is called a 'free-tubine', this is a more refined version of an engine that Metro-Vick had developed towards the end of WW.II. It looks a lot like the modern un-ducted fans that are now appearing but the internals are different to those.  So with this new information I started to think about the new project and up until the announcement of this 'what-if' build it was a bit dormant, but now it's jumped to the front of the line-up.  I've decided though just to make it a pusher because after reading Tony Butler's British Secret Project books, I found there was a number of aircraft designs which were seriously looked at by the Air Ministry that were of this design, for one the Small Agile Battlefield Aircraft.

Sorry Guys, I'm having to shelve this, got more pressing needs to attend to and won't be having much time to do any model building.
