Not sure what I will be building yet, as I have most of the available standard kits in my stash. However, I think this is going to be the perfect build to get me out of my current rut - a nice, straightforward OOB build of something relatively simple. _________________ Cheers,

Not much activity in here yet is there?
Here are my options:
I've decided that I'm going to build the DUKW - I've never made it before, but one of my brothers made one when I was a tiddler and it was always a particular favourite to play with!

Build is well underway now - started assembling the driver's 'cabin', and painted the wheels and various sub-assemblies.
There are some particularly bad ejector-pin marks on various parts of the interior. The worst are in the rear, but that's not a problem as I'll be making it with the cover in place. _________________ Cheers,

| Go for it. I have never seen one of these and would have loved it as a youngster. Never appeared in my LMS.... |

Not much more progress, and I'm driving up to Birmingham tonight to spend Christmas with my family, so no more will be done for a while. Next update on the 27th! _________________ Cheers,

Hello all. You may remember me - I used to do some modelling round here...
Anyway, here are some progress pictures.
As of yesterday, basic structure together and wheels painted:
And as of this evening, with all hull parts and topside together, plus some wheels!
I'm using this build to get over my current bout of "modeller's block", so I'm not using any filler, minimal sanding, no fancy paint schemes. Going well so far, collapsing tables notwithstanding... _________________ Cheers,

Wheels are on, painting touched up, various bits picked out in gunmetal.
Next step is to attach the remaining bits and bobs (side plates over the wheels, machine gun position, headlamps), then apply decals. Should have it finished by the beginning of next week. _________________ Cheers,

It is a nice little kit - perfect for a quick (for me!) build.
Last night, I attached the last bits and bobs, painted up the windscreen and tools on the bonnet, and attached the side wheel well covers.
Tonight, I'll put on some Klear and pop on the decals. I've toyed with the idea of adding some variation by doing some weathering, but as this is supposed to be my "recovery" build, I'm going to resist the temptation! _________________ Cheers,

Adrian,
For some of the stronger weathering that you might want to add to the DUKW, as an amphibious vehicle, I'd recommend doing some of the washes before coating with Klear. You will find building up stains and waterline marks is easier this way as the matt paint will absorb the wash. Heavily thinned oil paint is very good for this sort of effect, but care must be taken not to over do it.

Thanks Andy. Unfortunately, I've already started putting on the Klear, so I think that decides for me if I'll be doing any weathering!
Put the decals on last night, so now I've just got to slap on some mattcote and the job's a good'un! _________________ Cheers,

Well, here it is. Put on a layer of mattcote last night, so I declare my build finished!
This has worked really well as a build to get me over my 'block' - haven't worried about it at all, just slapped it together and I'm pretty pleased with the result. Yes, there are some gaps, the decals are a teeny bit out of register, I could have weathered it and so on, but it looks just like the one I played with as a kid, so that's good enough for me! _________________ Cheers,
