The build has finally commenced after a bit of a practice run with an Airfix Churchill. As I am very much a tyro with this AFV lark this will be pretty much OOB.
Following the instructions (that's a novelty for me!) I have assembled the main turret components. Cleaning up the tiny little hatches and fitting them in place has made me realise why they call this braille scale! In attempting to clean up the gun barrel I am also beginning to realise why these nifty little turned jobbies are so attractive - previously I regarded them as an extravagance.

Middle picture shows the turned barrel? Point taken.

The top one shows the turned barrel (Aber) unpainted. The middle one is painted, and the bottom one is the original plastic barrel, with a bit of improvement (really, I worked hard to make it better) on the muzzle brake.

I have searched online for a turned barrel for a 1:72 or 1:76 Centurion without success. There are two nice options from Accurate Armour in 1:35, though. I might go and get a lathe and have a go at one myself.

Totally stalled mate. But I'm hoping to re-start as of later this morning and blitz it.

Very nice, and the machine gun too. Anybody recommend a UK source?

The machine gun was Extratech, from the PE fret for the Matchbox StuG IV. That's a sandwich of three PE parts. Fiddly, but quite nice.

This has been kicked back into life due to it being required elsewhere. Only took a little over twelve months to get around to it!
This is where I left off, turret halves together and a few hatches fastened:
Hull now assembled and turret more or less complete:
The running gear is now underway. From the pic I have seen the wheels appear to have rubber rims, is this correct?

Yes!
I'd strongly recommend assembling the running gear completely, before you paint or even undercoat it.....Including the vinyl tracks.....Trust me on this!
The paintwork will be a little trickier, but the overall finish will be much, much better, simply because the tracks will (or at least should) stay put on the running gear!
I'd also advise against using any oil-based paints on the tracks as these seem to induce 'track-rot'. Stick to acrylics, even for the washes, for best long-term results.

Thanks for the tips Sarge, I shall refer back to them. As I'm intending to spray everything I think I need to invest in a circle cutter...

Alternatively try a black base - deep brown preshade - basecoat - brown wash - base highlight.....It's a balancing act, but the combination of soft-edge demarcation and washes can be used to integrate the weathering into the paint job.
I have some .PDFs detailing this technique if you want them.

Still rumbling on with this build. I somehow couldn't abandon my long-standing practice on building in sub-assemblies, then painting and in any case how do you mask the wheels if you assemble the running gear?
Anyways, everything was undercoated with Revell 09 Anthracite, then I mixed up Bronze Green as quoted in the Humbrol Colour System book and sprayed that on. Wheels were masked with a circle template to leave the Anthracite showing, thought it would take for ever. Then I coated up with Klear to make handling easier.
Should have this finished fairly soon.
