|
|
All prizes donated to our fundraising activities are received with equal gratitude and it would be wrong to say that any of them is any more important than the others. Having said that, I thought that this particular prize deserved a separate thread. When I was at Telford, I was introduced to Dave Jones who paints many of the Airfix box artwork. We ended up chatting for a long time and during our conversation, he said that he would like to paint an original 22" x 18" artwork for us to give as a prize in our next fundraiser. How about that for a fantastic prize?
Here are some examples of Dave's artwork, which should be well-known to Airfix fans. Click for larger images:
Dave also did the TSR2 box-art and the TSR2 limited edition print and many more box-arts. You can see more of his Airfix and other stunning work on his web site at: http://www.johndjones.com/
As part of the prize, the winner gets to choose the subject so if ships float your boat, then you can have a picture of a ship. If you want an aircraft, tank, train or any other subject then Dave will paint it for you. You can also have a painting done to represent one of your models so if you have done a "what-if" colour scheme then Dave can paint that for you. Perhaps you would like a painting of an aircraft that your Dad flew or of a ship you served on. They should also be possible and you may be required to provide photos or references if necessary but that can be discussed between the winner and Dave.
As with Dave's Airfix paintings, it will be done on illustrated board and sent flat and well-packed to the winner. To complete the prize, Dave will pay for the framing of the picture, too. All in all, a wonderful prize from a very nice man! Thank you, Dave! Let's show him just how much we care and really do his prize justice by giving as much support as possible to the next Charity Fundraising event, taking place in February.

That is an absolutely brilliant prize and one I would dearly love to win.
Congratulations to both of you for coming up with this, I will be more than happy to support the draw and promote it as much as I can.
I can actually see the painting in my head, fingers crossed!
Cheers

Holy zonk. That's a prize and a half!
What are the chances that someone (if they win) asks for HMS Dreadnaught?
(Then ask Airfix to produce the kit as the box art would already have been done). _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

I was very impressed with his rendering of the TSR 2, and had high hopes for seeing his artwork in the future on more Airfix boxes.
Well done, Dave and Dave, for organising this.
I, too, would think that it would be appropriate for the painting to represent HMS Dreadnought, and I suggest that Dave gets his palette out now and get to work on it! |

The Dalek I'm painting springs to mind - now that would be scary....
Seriously though - An NZ P-3 Orion or B-170 Mk31 Bristol Freighter.... no surprises there...!
I don't think it matters what the subject is.... it will be impressive. _________________ the evolution of the modern car is such it now ressembles a toaster. |

It appears that this competition has been delayed a month. What happened? _________________ Collectable kits built here. Baggies, blisters or boxed. You collect 'em, but I'll build 'em. |

For personal reasons it was necessary for me to put the competition back until the end of March. Details of the competition will be announced at the end of this month and tickets will be sale for the four weeks prior to the draw.
