well made a start on the hull, decided to join the hull first to make it a bit strnger for removing parts of the aft superstructure, a bit dissapointed with the moulding which is not too crisp, lots of flash and very thin  in parts(almost transclucent in parts).  Also had to glue up in sections as hull was twisted. still looks ok but will need sanding a a bit of filler, pics to follow

Detail on the rest of the parts is fairly non descript, addition of some spare bits of etch will help as I intend this conversion to be mostly out of box except for scratchbuilding of the heli - decks

Well the hull went together very well in the end, will still need sanding and a bit of filler, but not as much as I first thought!!!

Focsle is loosly fitted and will need filler at the joins as well as anding, then I can get started on the fwd heli deck, should be interesting, but the lack of decent pics and detailed drawings should help!!

Here is  the upturned hull, I found that it was quite warped and ended up doing it a few inches at a time, also shown is the poor join to the lower bridge structure and the stern galleries after cleaning up

These photos show the red shaded areas of the stern galleries that will need to be removed to allow for the aft heli pad, photos show the port side, stbd will be similarily removed

Managed to cut out the shaded parts of the stern galleries last night and admit to being pretty chuffed at the result!!!!  pics to follow, also have a firm idea of how I am going to scratch build the aft heli deck, so getting there slowly.

The problem is getting some clear photos of all areas of the aft deck, I have found some good ones that show most of the detail, I know that at the fwd end the sides of the flight deck are lower than the central and aft sections, so a sort of "well deck" about 10 inches is created.  Trying to properly identify the deck covering is proving difficult, it looks as if it is the bare deck planking, which would in some way make sense, as why would they waste time in covering a section that will never bear the weight of a helicopter.

Have ordered a good book today on Merchent ships at war looking specifically at the Falklands, it promises lots of detail with photos of conversions.  So with any luck it might be the last piece of the jigsaw that I need, fingers crossed.

well here are the first photos of the removed stern galleries around the pools, have also painted the first of the decks, ready for attaching, this will then allow the start of the aft helipad

well lots of sanding and fitting of the aft decks, some required re-shaping to allow for the removal of parts of the stern galleries, pics to follow as my laptop at home packed up over the weekend, should be up and running in a few days. Will be concentrating on adding a few doors to give slightly more detail to the aft superstructure.
