Vulcan sprue shots and box art.
Made a start on assembling the tailcone and fin last night. Painted the pilots and various cockpit things.
There is not too much flash on the sprues and on test fitting of the major pieces they go together very well.
I have not decided which version to do yet. |

Doesn't look as big as I imagined it would. But then things do look smaller in photos and when you open their box.
See box "wow that must be massive" buy model get home open model look at model "why is the box got enough space to fit a second one in ?" |

| You will find that there is not much else that can be fitted into the box other than the model. Once its completed you would be able to get a whole squadron of 1/72 spitfires on those delta wings. The model is a big un in 1/72 scale. |

How many spits are in a squadron?
Never actually seen one of these but kits d-day/road to berlin/vj-day open the box theres enough space to fit kits from 3 other gift sets in and kits like stug III have enough space to fit in another. |

Thomas you will need a shed load of nose weight in that beast I know I built it twice several years ago so make sure the undercarriage is well and truley fixed. (On first attempt I didn't and it broke the undercarriage legs in several places).
Good luck with your build I shall be watching to see it finished.

Thanks Svake
When Skybolt was cancelled in the 60s, Avro drew up a proposal to modify the skybolt attachments to carry a single seat Folland Gnat. The Vulcan would carry one under each wing and a third in a modified bomb bay. Each Gnat would carry an A-bomb and would launch within range of its target. Avro dropped the idea when the RAF kindly pointed out that the Gnats would be on a one way mission and its pilots were not too keen on the idea ! |

| Freight Dog decals arrived today but on the instructions there are a few questions marks over the BS numbers for the Dark Earth and Tan. (The bottom camo pattern on the Vulcan). I shall have to dig out my Buccaneer Book as they were painted in the same colour for Red Flag 77 in which they took part with the Vulcan. |

According to the ground crew who had to repaint the Vulcan at Nellis, the original light aircraft grey underneath was reflecting so much light as it banked over the bombing ranges it was like a flying lighthouse. Painting the underneath in desert colours gave it more of a fighting chance to reach its targets before the F-15s could get it.
Four Buccaneers of 208 Sq were painted as well.
There is a conflict of interest over the tan colour its either Light earth or Light Stone. I'm going for light earth. |

Finally re-commenced work on this one.
Humbrol filler has been used to fill in any gaps and has been sanded down wearing out my sanding sticks.
A coat of Hu29 has been painted on the undersides with a hairy stick and i have broken one of my undercarriage boggles.
Tonight a second coat of Hu29 will be painted on and the boggle fixed with super glue.
i am enjoying this build. |
