Hi Folks

I wasn't going to enter this GB, until I saw a tatty box on a stand at Telford. The trader let me open the box, all major parts seemed to be there. He wanted £15, I offered £10, deal done.

The engine was part started and a couple of other bits glued, but it all seems to be there. I hadn't realised how big the kit is, much bigger than my 109.

The kit is a Mk1, the colour instruction book is copyright 1989.

I cockpit was interesting to build but it went together well. I may regret not painting bits first, time will tell. The pilot looks a bit like Kenneth More.

The picture at the back was in the box. It is from Len Deighton's book, 'Battle of Britain'. The badge of the BBMF has been stuck to it, another of the canopy and a third of the engine.

The propeller at the back is the one from the kit, the other with the pointy nose is an extra from somewhere.

The pointy spinner matches the cutaway but the fuselage might  need to be tapered more for a good fit.

The only decals are the ones from the kit, LK*A, 87 Sqdn, piloted by I R Gleed, and VY*Q, 85 Sqdn, piloted by Peter Townsend.

I wonder what happened to the original owner of this kit?

Colin

Looks like a good start Colin. That second spinner looks more like a Spitfire one than a Hurricane.

How will you build this one - U/C down, or up with a stand (if it has one)?

Hi Owen

Well spotted. I've just checked against my old 1/24 Spitfire, it looks very similar. I wonder now if there was a 'some parts missing' Spitfire in tatty box that I missed...

The stand was the only thing missing that I have noticed so far but I always intended to build it wheels down.

Best

Colin

Well if you wanted to build a DH propped Hurri, you could always use the Rotol on the Spit as a MkIIa

Progress continues. All major bits assembled and glued. Painting will have to wait until after Christmas.

It is a big kit...

That is looking lovely so far Colin, nice work. There's a fair bit of plastic in that too

Too cold to be outside spraying paint so I had a go at the pilot, Kenneth.

Happy New Year.

Not quite finished but near enough, just some minor touchups and a final coat of Klear, then some Matt Cote to dull it down again.

I don't have anywhere to spray when it is cold so it has been brush painted with Revell Aqua Acrylics.

I need to tidy up the cowling fit, I may glue it down.
