I know that ambulances used by Commonwealth units in all areas in WW2 would have been finished in the basic overall colour for that theatre of war but can anyone tell me whether they would also have been given a disruptive scheme, be it Caunter, stripes,"Mickey Mouse" or whatever. I think that I can remember seeing a picture of a K2 in the western desert wearing sand/stone but most other pictures are of ambulances in a single colour.

Yes, they were. Many ambulances carried some form of disruptive painting although it wasn't commonplace. I have pictures of K2 in Caunter, some Dodges and others type in that scheme too. Then there were the locally applied ad hoc patterns of simply dark stripes or bands on the body. Despite regulations against such painting it still occurred from time to time even in italy in 1944-45. The Polish forces added Light Mud to their US Olive Drab Dodges. I've not seen one in 'MM' patterning though, but it wouldn't surprise me if a picture did turn up. On that theme ambulances should not have carried any national I.D. markings like white stars but sometimes they did, and a roundel too in Italy, the Poles again. US ambulances commonly but not always carried stars since their regulations were somewhat different.
