In anticipation of this GB tomorrow, I've dug the box out of the stash and photographed all the bits:
This is th boxing, of course:

And here's the destructions alongside the decals - which worry me, somewhat, being as they are on the lovely brown backing paper...

Sprues are in a baggie. There are three normal grey sprues - light grey standard stock plastic but a bit on the chunky side all in all.

And there's a separate baggie with the transparencies (which includes the whole front panel of vehicle) inside:

So there we go - one day to go til kick-off.

I have made a start - promise!

I've painted up lots of bits, including starting both of the two different chassis supplied (duh!!! - should've read the destructions and realised what I was doing - it was like deja-vu all over again).

A few more bits to do and then I can break out the glue....

After a couple of weeks' absence, here's my progress (actually all done today) - I've essentially got the chassis together, got the gearstick in place and, not photographed yet, put the steering column and instrument binacle together.

Cheer up. Some progress is better than none. On a lighter note, You asked to sign up to this GB When you were already signed up.

How the memory plays tricks!

Hi Spudgun,

I think what Paula's after is a separate thread so she can build her model in there without "polluting" my build in here - two people building two different kits in one thread could get a bit confusing!

Cheers,

Dan

Man these vehicles have small fiddly bits, don't they?!

I've been working, bit by bit, on the ambulance even though I haven't recorded progress for a while.

Firstly, and logically, I worked on the innards. As I'm modelling the thing all closed up I didn't bother detailing the insides behind the driver's compartment as none of it would be seen. I've added in the steering column, the centre console etc. before getting the thing on its wheels.

I then slowly worked to add the sidewalls and to get the front in place. That needed me to sand back the front of the centre consoles so that the overall front section could be slotted into place and sit correctly. After that I attached the rear "wall" - really the rear doors - and fiddled with the rear bumper section. Due to the foot-step on the rear wall hanging down over the bumper, it was really an interference fit so I had to remove the rear step and then re-fit it afterwards.

Only the doors to get on and then I can start a bit of filling and sanding work to get the panels to sit nicely.

I found fitting the bodywork a headache as well. It was a relief when it was done.

Man, spudgun, you aren't kidding! The worst fitting pieces are the doors - what a pain! The rest of the chassis doesn't seem to quite sit square! Still, the rest of the assembly, bar the flashing light on top, is now all done for my ambulance, and I've primed the whole shebang in 2 coats of H64. It's a good job that I'm coming to the end of the can because it's gloopy enoug to fill the gaps between the door and the rest of the chassis:

Since these pics were taken, I've done a bit of work mapping out the camo pattern.

It's been more than a month since I posted in here but then it's been more than a month since I did any work on the ambulance. I've laid out the camo, starting with the green:

And right now the H33 is drying. It'll need a second coat but it's quite nice to get going again!

Thanks arni.

This mornign I added the second coat of H33, so now the base colours are down. Unfortunately I've been sanding down my Vanguard and there's a bit of dust flying about, so the ambulance'll need a good wipe down before I add a coat of Klear. My intention is to add two Klear coats, decal, Klear, mattcote and then add the details such as Landie badge, tail-lights etc. in order to keep them nicely glossy. I also still need to do a bit of touching up of the chassis and wheels but they'll remain Klear free anyway.

Still, here it is now:

I think I can declare this one finished - my first wheely thing for a while!

I laid down a second coat of H33 to finish the camo. Then I added two coats of Klear to try to get a uniform finish from the shiny green and the matt black - I didn't succeed!

I gave the decals a coat of Microscale liquid decal film as they were on the dreaded brown backing. Also, there was a bit of a problem with the colour density of the big red cross for the roof- basically the red wasn't a uniform shade or finish all the way across. In addition to that, the numbers identifying the decals partially overlaid some of the transfer itself   .

After allowing an overnight setting fo the decals I applied them - actually with no trouble at all! I then added a final coat of Klear before adding a coat of Humbrol Mattcote.

Finally I brushed on the little details - I dry brushed the badge on the front in H11; the windscreen wipers in H33 and the tail lights in H19 and indicators H18 to give a glossy finished, before touching up the bits that needed it. Very last off I applied one single thin coat of H15 to the blue light on the roof.

This is the result - with a full set of pics in the gallery!
