In a couple of weeks a lot of my photos in numerous threads will disappear.
My photo host is shutting down on January 1st. :angryfire:

For the last week I've been uploading the replacement photos from my files to photobucket and I'll replace them as and when I can. :smt024:
Theres a lot of photos for over 3 years of modelling. It takes time looking them out and sorting them.

The loss and replacement of photos will affect Group Builds, individual kit galleries and reviews and other threads as well.

If any of you should come across a thread where my photos have disappeared I'd welcome and appreciate being informed. Either by PM [best] or through here.[not so good]

Theres a lesson here for you. Don't keep your original photos on a host site. I don't, only small copies go there. All the originals, edited copies and small versions are kept on two computer HDs, CDs, DVDs and a large remote HD. [thats five file copies]

It's so great you are aware of the problem and are doing what you can about it.
All should do the same when the problem is there.

Top marks to you.

Jesper.

Good on you Fred. It's quite annoying to see missing images in the threads!

I think I've posted this before, but we routinely prune posts with disconnected images from the Galleries for the reason Piers states - what's the point of keeping dead links in the Galleries
However, if like Fred you know there is a problem with your links, and are actively rectifying the situation, we will support your actions - just keep us informed

Thanks for noticing and responding to this.

I have exactly 2000 photos on that host site. They go back only to February 2013, the best part of 3 years.

I reckon only a quarter of those photos will need replaced on here. Edit; I did a recount on a clear out; 760 photos approx to replace.
About, perhaps, one-third of the photos were used on other websites and they don't need replacing.
The rest are now redundant.

Having gone through all the albums on the hosting site I can see how many GBs I have to finish :fear:
There are some I'd totally forgotten about.

Although I have all the original photos there are some I'll replace as the original is rather terrible and I have, since those were taken, acquired a couple of nice light-boxes and better lights.

I've been organising my photos on photobucket and have started putting replacements on there.
Come the new year I'll start replacing photos where they're needed most and working back in time. :smt024:

Question; will this affect the photos I've supplied for the Airfix history section? eg built models and box artwork?

Do you give the ATF member a PM before you remove the post?
In some cases I think they don't are aware of the problem and would try to fix it.
One the other hand I know some don't care at all.

It is a little strange to find a entry with comments for a model and the model entry itself not longer there.

Jesper.

In most cases they are no longer active :(

Those comments get deleted too because, as you say, they become pointless

Bear with me. I'll check the history section a bit at a time, as I come across broken links I'll offer up my pix again.

Talking of disappearing photos - most of mine have disappeared again. They are held on a server that occasionally throws a wobbly and they will probably reappear within the next 24 hours, well before I get any sort of response from the server support staff!

D-Day has arrived.
D for 'Disappearance'.
This avo [afternoon] the photo hosting site became a nothing site, in Dutch.
My photos now just show as; Image
I didn't replace any before now as it'll now be easier to see where they have to go.

I've taken the opportunity to sort my photobucket albums, with sub-albums, and sub-sub-albums, to keep photos organised.

I think I'll be working mostly from newest to oldest, and other most important ones first.

Questions; [answers or opinions] Should I replace photos in the Group Builds? Is it necessary, especially for very old ones? I'm thinking; maybe just finished ones in galleries or ones where I've done something special that others may want to copy [probably none of those tho]

Personally I forego the oldest WIP pictures, but keep the reviews and finished ones :juggle:
