I can remember the pride that we Brits had over the Concorde. When at infant school, our headmaster called an impromptu assembly at which the maiden flight was shown. I have no idea about the transmission details, it being a time when daytime tv was pretty much schools tv and open university.

Years later [1976] the Airfix Concorde came out. I got one for my birthday and can distinctly remember that the nose was moulded as the pointy one and how disappointed I felt at this.

I think this was/is the only Airfix kit I ever felt disappointment with. And I remember it didn't 'come out' very well - I think the engine casings and wings fit badly. Funny, as I got the Branif 'Big Orange' 747 which I read now was a bit of a stinker to assemble, but mine went together OK and was a hit with Mum who let me put it on the china cabinet - it being 'bright and cheerful'.

Have no idea why all this came to mind, but I thought I'd share with the Forum!

That sounds like my experience of the original (prototype) Concorde too. I presume it had BOAC markings rather than one of the BA flag tails? The BA production one that I'm converting from a T1 into a PR3 fits fine.

Yes! The dark blue tail with a yellow chevron comes to mind, and very striking it was too!

The prototype Concorde was released in Air France markings in 1967 (SK700) and BA markings (blue, gold tail) in 1968 (SK700 also).

The AF version was renumbered as SK701.

The production Concorde was released in BA markings in 1976 as 06175 and in 1988 as 06181 (Special Edition).

Apparently, when the prototype (SK700) was put in a wind tunnel, it produced the same flow patterns as the BAC models!

I have built a 70s and 90s release of the Concorde and both times its fitted well. However by the time the Big Orange 747 came out that mould had been produced many many times and although the fuselage had changed to resemble a 200 rather than a 100 version the rest of the parts were starting to show their age. For example passenger doors had shrunk, etc.

Cheers Jez, but British Airways was created by Act of Parliament in 1971 and first operated in 1974, so that was a BOAC scheme.
