Hello All :D  As it says in my Hello introductory post in the "Welcome" thread, about29108.html , I've been modelling for a LONG time (still make mistakes though   :oops: ) and have worked my way through an impressively large number of kits, starting with ".......... oooh look, bits left over ........... " to " ........... so how am I gonna fit in these extra scratch built bits?"

With under a quarter of the kits I've built surviving today, (This due to many reasons like, misshandling :cry: , theft :evil: , and other lesser reasons for attrition in one's collection), I thought I'd better show someone (other than my long suffering wife & kids) my skills (or lack thereof) and fruits of my labour. Most of my surviving models are safely stored in (mostly) air tight sealed food containters kinda like Tupperware but far more robust with very clear plastic cases. See Pics.

My "Lower Workbench" with non-scale projects,

I havn't actually completed any kits since about early 1995 or so, and I've a large box full of "started" models where the oldest "started" is the Airfix 1914 (?) Dennis Fire Engine I started in 1975!!   :oops: :roll:

Then there's the "To Be Repaired" boxes and the "Still Untouched But To Do" (but carefully explored :wink: ) boxes/trunks.

Lots to do, so let's get on with it ..........

Cheers All
Neil

There is no particular order to my portfolio's posts, as I come to them they'll be added.

Non-Airfix I know, but part of my modelling "heritage", here's some 1/700scale B-29A & F-13A models from Skywave PitRoad kit No. 19/SW300 finished building 08Jan82, there's a heap more to be built (a bomb wing plus attached photo unit) and lots of other types to boot, so stay tuned !!! This could take years !!!

The three B-29A's are fitted with tail guns and the extra pair of .50's in the forward top turret scratch built early style AN/APQ-13 ground mapping radar domes, the F-13A has camera windows. Their markings are a mixture of hand painted (you couldn't tell ??) & from the decal sheet in the kit, the subjects reasearched from "B-29 Superfortress in Action" - Squadron Signal #31, "Superfortress" by Steve Birdsall (Squadron Signal Special) & "B-29 Superfortress at War" by David A. Anderton. Still lots more reasearch to do as I've learnt lots since '82 !! I didn't attempt any nose art as I couldn't trust I wouldn't make some HUGE brush error, although now, with my printer and decal paper ......... Hmmmmmmmm .......

An idea of their size can be seen from the 10mm grid on my cutting board!

Still havn't got to pics of more Airfix's products.

So here we have a Matchbox 1/72scale McDonnell F-4K Phantom II kit PK-404 built June 1978, a thoroughly botched paint job, rushed and I was very heavy handed with the brushed Humbrol gloss varnish (now heavily yellowing) and obviously not being very careful. It really needs stripping and dissassembly and then rebuild, mainly to relieve my embarrassment   :oops: :oops: :oops:

ImageDSC06850s by Neil, on Flickr

More photos here, viewtopic.php?f=172&t=46659&p=780074#p780074

Second, a Hasegawa 1/72scale Mikoyan-Gurevitch Mig-27 'Flogger D', kit c10 JS-143:500. Built October 1979 in Soviet Frontal Aviation colours as Blue 06. Thought I'd try somrthing different for me and built her with wheels 'up' in flight mode, Iz ok model;

More photos here, viewtopic.php?f=172&t=35757&p=602374&hilit=Hasegawa+1%2F72+scale+Mig+27#p602374

And lastly a Matchbox 1/72scale Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk/Warhawk kit PK-31 built September 1979. I tried to do a heavily "weathered" brushed finish. Damaged in a fall the prop was replaced with a prop from a destroyed (same fall) Airfix P-40;

Also from the same set the B-29s above came from (19-SW300) are these 4 Mitsubishi J2M Raiden (Jack) land based Naval Fighters and 4 Nakajima J1N Gekko (Irving) heavy/night fighters. All finished on 08Jan1982, the Jacks were built out-of-the-box with generic numbering and national markings, the Irvings were detailed with Luftwaffe-style nightfighter radar aerials (modellers liscence at the time) and a fin stripe with generic numbers and national markings.

This Airfix P-38J Lightning CG-O 38th FS 55th FG was built in 1 day (26Dec1979 bumping other builds out of the way), just to see if I could, straight from the box, came out reasonably well ......

Dragon 1/144 Sukhoi Su-27K Naval Flanker DML4542.
Built during most of 1994, a very difficult build hence the loong build time. Built mostly straight out of the box as Blue-30 with scratch built data probes and wing-fold hinge fairings. Not very happy with the kit overall, the model is distinctly underscale and not quite the right shape in places, still looks ok though,

Matchbox 1/72 scale N.A. P-51K Mustang kit no. PK-013.
Built 14Dec1979 as the RAF 'K' version QV-V/KM272 straight from the box. I'm not really happy with the black codes & serials as they are very transparent and lack depth of colour.

Nice to see some of these old builds. I've still got a few of mine from the late seventies but they could be with some restoration work

Problem is Tim, ALL of my models arn't recent at all. The Dragon 1/144 Sukhoi above is my most recent model (I think???)
