Just couldn't resist it, could I?
I'm going to build one or more of the floaty things from the Falklands Warships box. _________________ Cheers,

This was supposed to be my holiday build, whilst I was away camping. However, given the state of the weather I decided it wasn't a particularly good idea so I didn't take it.
I've started now though.
Here are some sprue shots, of all three ships.
HMS Devonshire:
HMS Amazon:
HMS Leander:
And after a bit of cutting and gluing, here's what I've ended up with.
These look like almost as much fun as tanks - 5 minutes work and I've ended up with three things that look distinctly boaty! _________________ Cheers,

After my initial excitement, I've now found out the problem with 1/600 scale ships . Everything is so small! How on earth are you supposed to clear flash off something that is only 2mm long? And how do you fill the tiny little gaps in the deck without removing all of the moulded details?
Anyway, here's where I am. There'll be no more progress for a couple of weeks as I'm going away on business, so I'm afraid the deadline is toast.

I'm back from my trip now, so I might be able to make some more progress. I'd managed to convince myself that the deadline was 1st September rather than 14th, so you never know, I might actually make it (Ha!).
Done a little more work on the Leander today - adding the funnels and various little sticky out bits - being a complete landlubber, I have absolutely no idea what any of these bits are, where they're supposed to go or even which way up sometimes!
I'm afraid to say that after my initial flush of excitement, I can't see myself becoming a small scale ship builder. The parts are just so tiny that I'm finding it a real pain to get them cleaned up and fitted. I shall soldier (or should that be marine) on though. _________________ Cheers,

Finally managed to get a bit more done.
The Leander is built now except for the screws and helicopter, so she'll be ready for painting soon.
The Amazon has had a bit more done, with just a few more bits to attach.
The Devonshire has had various sub-sections built.
I'm hoping to get at least one of them finished before time runs out! _________________ Cheers,

Further little bits and bobs have been stuck onto all three tonight - Leander now has all parts except the helicopter on.
The Leander and Amazon have both had a coat of H64 applied to the hull, and the Leander has been masked up ready to apply H33 to the bottom. _________________ Cheers,

Painting started on the Leander and Amazon. Both have had an undercoat of H64, with Leander then getting a coat of H33 on the bottom of the hull and H70 on the decks. The Amazon hull and various parts of the decks have been given a lick of H27.
One thing I've realised is that I should have masked up and painted the black stripe on the funnel of the Leander before attaching it - going to be a devil doing it now without knocking some of the sticky-out bits off. That'll learn me to read the instructions through to the end before sticking everything together!
Pics to follow. _________________ Cheers,

Here are some pictures. I've touched up some of the previously applied paint, plus picked out various parts in white.

I painted H70 on the bottom of the hull of the Amazon tonight, and that has made it come alive too.
Anyway, the Leander is all but finished - decals are one, maybe just a bit of touching up to do, then some mattcote to finish. Slightly miffed on two points: firstly, I was going to mark it up as HMS Penelope, for no reason other than I think it's a brilliant name for a ship - can you imagine the fear it must have struck into the hearts of the Argentine forces? Anyway, I managed to fold the decal of the helicopter pad as I put it on, and no matter what I did I couldn't get it untwisted, so it's ended up as HMS Minerva instead!
Second point of miffitude was the little Lynx helicopter. After taking the picture this morning, I picked the ship up and put it back on my modelling tray. I must have forgotten that the helicopter wasn't attached and it's gone walkies somewhere. I only carried the stupid thing 10 feet in a straight line so you would think that I ought to be able to find it, but the carpet monster has struck again. _________________ Cheers,

Finally, here is the Leander class, finished as HMS Minerva. The Lynx is off on a mission
Despite my whinging along the way, I'm fairly pleased with it. There are some distinctly ropey bits, particularly the line where the deck colour meets the sides which is very wobbly, but all in all it makes for a neat little model.
Amazon has had all of its remaining bits and bobs glued on and is ready for final painting. Sadly, the Devonshire is languishing somewhat unloved at the back of the modelling tray - for some reason, it seems to have much less character than the other two. _________________ Cheers,

Not bad for a 'Fly-boy' you'll get the hang of these floaty things yet
Seriously, the boy dun good Perhaps you could've (could still) pick out the anchor chains and cleats, and maybe add/pick out the portholes & windows with a black pen just to add that extra bit of detail, but a very nice build. Well done _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Yes, I did think about doing that at one point - have to say that I forgot about it I might go back and do that when I've got the others done too. _________________ Cheers,
