Crikey, that was quick! Order for resin placed on Wednesday, arrived in the post today! Well done them!
Not a good pic as I took it on my phone, but here it is - the detail is amazing, but it's going to take some painting!

| Glad you got your Neomega cockpit Adrian. From previous experience with the Jaguar cockpit and the Tornado one I'm also building, you'll find that it paints up really well and the fit to the kit parts is normally achievable without too much trimming and cutting. |

Never used resin before, so it will be a bit of fun. I'm quiet looking forward to painting it - much scope for completely OTT super-detailing! _________________ Cheers,

Well, I've started at last! I've given the resin an undercoat of H64, which should suffice for the base colour, and I've started to paint the instruments, dials etc. Pics to follow.
Still haven't got the kit out of the cupboard though _________________ Cheers,

The kit is out of the cupboard! Gave it a wash last night, so the undercoat should go on tonight and then I can get going.
Meanwhile, the resin cockpit is coming on. The seat has had the cushion parts painted green, and handle-thingys painted red. Still got to do the straps and oxygen mask. The cockpit tub has had dials painted in coal black (H85), with some surrounds then picked out in grey (H27), or vice versa. Whole thing has then received some drybrushing with whatever lighter colours I was using for other things to pick out highlights. Still need to give the instruments a dab of Klear to simulate glass.
The cockpit sides and instrument panel have had pretty much the same treatment for various buttons/dials/joystick thingies.
As you can see, I've been putting off cutting the parts away from the casting blocks, as it frightens me! _________________ Cheers,

The cockpit is looking impressive so far Adrian.
I'd have been tempted to cut the parts off the casting blocks before painting but it shouldn't be too much of a problem after.
The resin dust has a tendency to cling to the parts so it's probably best to rinse the parts after removing them from the blocks, Also resin is brittle, especially those sidewalls so be careful when removing them from the casting block, I trimmed my sidewalls off with a stanley knife scoring several times with light pressure
I look forward to seeing installed in the fuselage. |

Yes, I've found out about the brittleness - the handle doubrey (the one you didn't get) is now in two pieces, as it snapped when I was painting it. I'd have sworn I didn't apply any pressure to it, but there you go. _________________ Cheers,

| I'm going to be a noobie as well to resin work on my Ju-88 engine sets in the next week or so. If I can get them anywhere near the job you are doing on your cockpit I will be happy. |

Cheers RG.
I separated the resin pieces from the casting blocks last night, and I can see what Mark meant about the dust - absolutely everywhere! Still, after a good wash, they all look much better. I've had a dry run to see how they fit, and it's not trivial but shouldn't be too tricky.
I've also started on the fuselage as I mentioned elsewhere. Intakes and tailplane are assembled, fuselage, jet pipe, and wing sections all trimmed and ready to go, and the reverse thrust clamshells have been separated.
As Mark has said, there are no locating pins on the fuselage, so I've also added a few tabs to try to ensure it all lines up. Going to be a tricky little devil, though. _________________ Cheers,

The one I used wasn't particularly fine. Another suggestion I have seen is to use a Dremel multitool with a cutting disc, although that has much greater scope for absolute disaster.
I spent the majority of last night trying to get the resin bits and bobs to fit into the cockpit area. The bathtub went in fine, and the instrument panel, but only separately. If I tried both together, they didn't fit - cue a bit of hacking at the bottom of the tub, plus some vigorours sanding (with my new sanding sticks, which I have to say are fab!). It all fitted, but then I attached the side panels, and it didn't fit again.
After an hour or so of muttering and assorted obscenities, I think I've now got to the point where it will all go in, but I haven't had the nerve to glue it yet _________________ Cheers,

Hi Adrian, did you fit the nose wheel well yet? The fit in this area is quite tight and you'll need to sand off as much of the cockpit floor as you dare to get it in.
I recommend gluing the side walls in place on the kit part first. then the cockpit tub to one side, you may have to trim the sides slightly. They are thin enough to do with a stanley knife but go carefully. Then add the instrument panel, I had to sand a bit off the bottom of mine to get it to fit.
The key here is to test fit over and over again until you get it right. Compared to resin cockpits from other manufacturers, Neomega ones fit with the minimum of fuss. Apart from the Buccaneer one that is. I'm still struggling to get that one into place. |

Yes, the wheel well is in, and I've sanded much more of the floor off than is shown in the diagram that came with the resin set.
I glued the sides in, and as you say, I had to perform a little reconstructive surgery on them to even have a hope of fitting the bathtub. The instrument panel looks as though it will just fit in, but I might shave a bit off anyway.
The next problem is going to be finding a particularly dextrous octopus to help hold everything together when it comes to joining the two halves _________________ Cheers,

Okay, I'm at the point where I need to attach the larger resin pieces to the fuselage halves.
I've done the smaller pieces using superglue, but for the larger pieces it would be useful to have a little flexibility after I've joined them whilst I put the fuselage together. I know that ordinary plastic cement is not going to work, and I'm sure I read somewhere that 5-minute epoxy is the best thing to use, but I can't find it again now. Before I go off and destroy the whole thing by using a glue that is going to eat through the resin/plastic/my hands/the cat, could someone just confirm how to attach the resin to the plastic? _________________ Cheers,

Would a contact adhesive like Bostik be more suitable
I used it in the construction of my Nissen Hut and its not affected the plastic on that _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

My cockpit went in ok with superglue and some test fitting prior to committing glue to plastic.
However if you want flexibility
I've built Games Workshop models before and used Araldite epoxy glue to attach Metal Parts to Plastic and it was fine and you get a bit of flexibility till it dries. |

Thanks Mark.
I took the plunge last night and, with the added courage imparted by a glass or two of red wine, stuck it all together with superglue , then joined the fuselage halves.
All in all, I don't think it went too badly. The seams are definitely going to need work, but that was always going to be the case.
You can see in both pictures the large gaps at the base of the air intakes that are going to need filling. The bottom pic also shows how the front of the nose is lined up nicely, but the cockpit opening, less than a centimetre away, doesn't! _________________ Cheers,
