1 Apology to Feanor I couldn't set up your thread as we've had internet problems but they are all fixed. Sorry and I hope this hasn't set the tone for my Leadership skills.

Ayup Modeldude...

No worries or problems my friend... you are a great moderator I'm sure...

Also NO apologies needed...

I'm sure this GB will go splendidly. You MAY need to keep kicking ME up the bum....

Please do so if you feel I'm not keeping up.

Chees, Stu...

Ayup all...

'Thunder' Birds are go again eh?

Firstly I just wanna say sorry to Owen again for not completing the Marauder GB, I hope you forgive me mate.

Now, To the Viggen. I will build the Heller 1/72th with an Airwaves etched cockpit and bits.

The Plastic is soft and blue, and has such delicately raised panel detail it's unreal. you can Hardly see them, let alone feel them. I shall build the Trainer SK-37 version in a grey overall scheme to keep it 'simple'.

There are 78 pieces on 4 sprues, one being clear. There are 5 possible versions to build...

First the sprue shots....

And box shot showing the etch and cockpit instrument film...

Here are some dry run shots of the fuse and wings. this kit is more delicate than you think...!

Tomorrow I shall attempt to get the cockpits built with their etched bits, plus I shall add any extraneous etch that only requires to be stuck to the fuselage. Also, I shall paint ( hopefully, foreman permitting!) the interior of the fuselage, including thrust reverser vanes and exhaust. I may add some 5 thou plasticard to represent a band of metal often seen in some Viggen exhausts.

That plus 1000 tons of sand, gravel and Tarmac...!

Ayup all...

Just fitting PE to cockpit tubs, I'll edit this later to include pics...

It's just taken 30 mins to fit 3 pieces! I've had to fill 3 sinkmarks with tippex on each seat (!) and have primed them with silver H11 for the main seat. Has anyone any suggestions to tart up the rear cockpit tub sides as there's only PE for ONE tub, and I'm skint 'till next week....?

I've also fitted the main gear well PE and will start on the undercarriages...

Ayup All...

I've just returned from my dads and although I didn't wanna go, I had a good time. My dad has started his Revell Vosper MTB, and has gotten off to a good start with the main hull sorted out quite nicely. I sorted his deck/hull seams out with filler, and then we settled down, him continuing with his deck stuff (torpedo tubes and ventilators and the last part of the main superstructure) and me the viggen. I have almost finished cockpit construction and made a start on the landing gear PE. What a pain that was...

It was nice for HIM to be asking MY advice for a change...

I painted the cockpit seats H11 and will detail paint at work, with maybe some more PE, but that does take time to ensure it's done right.

On Friday evening he's coming up to have a spray session: i.e. prime his boat ready for HIS paint.

Trouble is, He's putting it on a ledge in his FISHPOND WITH THE GOLDFISH...!

SHOULD I GO FOR A PERFECT FINISH?? ah well....

Not sure if that is a good idea. Not knowing what is in paints and glue, is there any possibility of contamination of the water and perhaps having an adverse affect on the goldfish?

And there is the problem of birds sitting on it and crapping on it!

Ayup all...

Today I painted the Cockpit seats, dry brushed the cockpit tubs and main Instrument panel and fitted them. I made up the engine Intakes and put the exhausts (?) on either side of the fuselage.

I had to pack under the second cockpit with blu-tak to hold the second tub up - I'm afraid the front 'pit will have etch, and the rear, none. must get on!

All fitted dry quite well until i had to mess with the darn blu tak. but it is needed to hold the cockpit in place.

A question for the Airbusians...

Did you have the same problems or not?

The fuse will look ok once together permanently. but there are biggish gaps to fill around the intakes. will take pics tomorrow at work in the light and post. am continuing PE on main undercarriage legs tonight. Phew !

Today will see me fill a few slight gaps, with mr. surfacer and filler, and finish the bang seats, and cockpits, and get it ready for primer.

Ayup All...

Overnight, this mornings progress....

The front canards, the nose, and tailplane are now fitted!

My Viggen is starting to look something like...

Just got a few seams to sort, before priming...( My 'bogey ' stage, where AMS usually hits me) and by today, WILL be done, fetching the missus notwithstanding....

Only 6 to prime....

Please enjoy....

I favour a metallic blue finish as seen on Airliners.net (canna post the image 'cos of copyright) and have also seen another in an NMF... I'm NOT doing the splinter!

Anyways...

Ayup All...

I know this pic doesn't seem to show any advancement, but there is!

The cockpit is completed and all the lousy seams sorted. (canards, etc.) I'm now ready for primer, and I've almost finished the undercarriage. the model looks impressive with the drop tank dry fitted, and the only PE to fit is within the airbrake recess and to form the PE Airbrakes themselves.

I've got to do a little research on the Met. blue scheme I've seen, and so, we're cooking with gas...

and...

Ayup RG...

I haven't been able to touch anything at all this week, been REALLY BUSY at work. Today though, I painted the wheels with Metalcote polished Aluminium and tyre black. Will paint the main Undercarriage with Ally tomorrow. with a bit of luck, primer will appear soon.

Ayup All...

More progress today...

I got off my fat keyster at last and sprayed the Viggen (and Javelin) gloss black for its Alclad topcoat. (and quite exciting it is too... now that the end is almost in sight...)

There are some blemishes to sand/ polish out and then a touch-up coat will be required. BUT I can't work on either of those models for 24 Hrs until the gloss is rock-hard. Although dry, the gloss is still a little soft.

I've got some decals being custom printed by paul on Gregers (Tiald1) and had a chat with him earlier on for an half hour or so. They should be here for the weekend! just in time,eh? I'll post pics termorrer as (as usual) my camera batteries are flat! so will get some on the way home....

Good stuff this modelling lark, eh?

Roll on the Alclad! (Any Tips anyone?)
