|
|
This is something new I want to do. About once a week I'll pick a kit from the Airfix range that hasn't been around for a while and post up some box arts and sprue shots. Just a bit of nostalgia really.
No. 1
The first kit is the Henschel Hs 126A-1
Taken from the History section;
Henschel Hs 126 03028-7/9 03028/03028
1/72 scale. Available from 1978 to 1982. Reissued as a limited edition in 1993. Also issued by USAirfix as kit number 30060 (1980?). R. Humm
So it's been a while since it was last out! Look at the box art it still has the Swastikas on the tail! -Those were the good ole days before all this PC nonsense when we used to lick wooden toys with lead paint and smash up old asbestos roofing so you could get it all in a skip.
Anyway...
(BAC)
Here's the sprue shot.
Some nice detailing including fabric effect control surfaces, quite well detailed cockpit and a nice figure of the observer leaning out of the cockpit with a camera -I hope he doesn't drop it!
Two colour schemes were offered with this kit. The usual two greens over light blue or white over light blue for the Eastern Front. Swastika decals were included too back then.
Here's one I did a number of years ago.
(BAC)
This kit fetches around £10-£14 on E-bay, it all depends on the day. I've seen some go cheaper and others over £20 but that is usually two people having a fisticuffs over it!
Do you think Airfix should be re-releasing this one? I do. _________________ If you can't Dodge it, Ram it!!!!!!!!

I remember thinking the exact same thing years ago when I built the Matchbox version of this kit and the Matchbox Lysander.

Ayup Bri...
THIS is what we should be seeing in the re-release schedule ! #
look at the lovely detail on the fuselage cockpit section, and with the observer posed in a different plane as it were, than facing forwards, it's just so interesting... plus it looks like a little scratching could be added...
Thanks, Nice thought. _________________ Airfix Member 022... Jolly Boy.

reminds me of the polish CZL/PZL models rather than a Lizzy. Not my cup of tea tbh but looks a lovely kit. _________________ --.. --- -. . / -.-. .- .-.. .-.. / .-- --- --- -.. |

A true Airfix gem, surprising that it's locked up in the Airfix archives.

I've picked one of these up, same box art as the one pictured (1977). Being "new" at the time the mouldings are very crisp and the amount of cockpit detail is surprising.
I too am surprised at the ommission of this one in the current Airfix line-up given some of the much older moulds still being punted.
My only dilemma is whether to go for the Norway 1940 scheme like yours or the 1942 Eastern Front job in white... |

The Norwegian scheme is quite attractive, and one that would go well with the Bf 110C.
Competition includes the Matchbox (generally worse) and Italeri. I haven't seen the Italeri for some time, and my recollection is poor.
Airfix could gain some points by increasing the range of markings offered, especially bearing in mind the possibilities of attractive schemes for operations in the Balkans, Greece and North Africa against Commonwealth forces. _________________ “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” Winston Churchill |

This is a very good idea Brian.
I am sure that others will think the same.
Looking forward to others in this series.
The AIRFIX Hs126 was certainly one of the best Luftwaffe kits that they produced, mine is collecting a little dust in the display cabinet, must get it out, clean it up and photo it.
Perhaps AIRFIX have this one lined up for re-release in 2010, maybe with their excellent Me163? Both would prove very successful sales-wise.
Best
Ron.
PS Very nice to meet at Telford BTW. |

Yep, I fully agree it's a very nice kit that should be reissued with new good artwork. The "white box" pic from the 90s is among the worst ever done by Airfix - IMHO. The 70s one is not bad, but not great either. BTW, the shape of things to come is there already - the swastikas have a separate section of the decal sheet. The - I assume - second run of the kit in the 70s featured the same artwork minus swastikas and "new" flash. _________________ Oh if I could just find the time to build ONE MORE model... |

I was lucky enough to pick one up for £3.00 at Telford last Sunday. If I'd known they sell for £10-£14 on E-bay I'd have bought the other two I saw as well.
I think it should be re-released as I was pleasantly surprised by the level of interior detail. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

That's the chap. There was some interesting stuff in those boxes.
You must have been there before me as I didn't see any 189s. _________________ So many kits, so little time |

For a recon and liason bird that's a heck of a big bomb slung underneath it! Reading up it seems it could carry up to 150kg of bombs, but that seems a bit big for a 50kilo bomb and the other main types start at 250 kilos? Quite a short service life for the aircraft too, 1938-42.
