This second instalment of  'This weeks Featured kit' is the SAM 2 Missile, launcher and tractor.

Here's what it says inthe History...

SAM-2 Guideline Missile     03303-5
1/76 scale. Listed as A303V in 1972 but not issued. Available from 1974 to 1979. Mould missing in 1999.
Richard Humm

These go on E-bay for around £25-£35 depending on box condition and how many people want it at auctions end. I got lucky as I only paid around £16 but the box on mine is fairly poor and I think the auction ended on a quiet mid week day -probably when the footy was on or something like that.

It's a kit you don't often see made up as most get hidden away in collections never to be made. I intend on making mine one of these days. anyone else ever built one?

I don't know much about the misslie itself or the tractor so I can't comment on if it's accurate or not but the moldings do look pretty good.

Where the mold is now is anyones guess.

Like the Airfix Bristol Bloodhound this kit can be built with the missile stored on it's trailor or on the launcher ready for firing.

Cheers!

That's a real holy grail! Thanks for that Brian. It's nice to see it as more than just a box top.

Just like the Islander - not really a very rare kit and on ebay at regular intervals, but always selling at good prices 'cause the mould is claimed lost. Maybe just a part of it, so we may hope for some redone replacement parts and a reissue.

For the record, there are three packaging variations I'm aware of: The later T4 as illustrated, the first run box with a "new" flash and the T5 box. It may have been in the Catalogues for '79 and '80, but Ican't recall having seen a T6 box.

Now you are just showing off!

Although it is not from my preferred period this is a great kit and I'm amazed Airfix haven't attempted to reissue it.....Perhaps Trumpeter will scale down their 1/35 version and some kind of cooperation might be possible?

Just a thought, all the best

The wheels are too small!

As far as I know this is one that we can write off as a lost mould, which is a shame as a reworked (better wheels, figures) would go down well.

Eat your heart out folks , I've just got a Recovery set and a SAM-2 kit both in "new" flash boxes in almost perfect condition from eBay for £24.55 including the postage !
Like they say they are still out there in very good condition too.
