Anyone know what colour the rockets should be on the old Gnat kit .I broke this one out of my collection and its actually a nice build compared to the blobs that come out of the old mould now . _________________ Charlie dont surf ! |

No painting instructions were given in my old instructions. My 1973 catalogue has a large print of the Type 3 header art. This shows the rockets having red tips. The body looks metallic, but I can't say for sure. _________________ If you would like Airfix to release a 1/600 kit of HMS Dreadnought,

I remembered this thread after reading my latest issue of Air-Britains Aviation World (Autumn 2009) magazine, there's a very nice 4 page article on the Gnat but more specifically there's a very clear colour photo of XK741. This is a single seat Gnat in RAF colours and markings and shows it fitted with drop tanks and RP's, the RP's are black (they look gloss black) with bright red warheads (almost Day-Glo). Another interesting thing is the drop tanks, these are on pylons and look very similar to the small drop tanks carried by Hawker Hunters. What the photo also shows is that the RP's were carried about where the slipper tank on the kit are, with the drop tank pylon further out, the pylons are in line with the flap/aileron join _________________ If I'm not model building, I'm dirtbike riding |
