Hi all,

I´ve been around here a while now, and am now trying to give an overview of my modeling output over the years.

I was born in 1962, and plastic modeling was THE hobby of my childhood and teenage years. After the usual break from modeling, I seriously restarted the hobby in 1995. I got my first airbrush back then, and started making aircraft models. I got internet access in 1997. In 1998, I happened upon modelingmadness.com, which still is my main modeling site. My interest in Airfix kits was never gone, and was rekindled soon after I slipped into ship modeling in 2003. I got into contact with Jim Baumann, and learned about WEM and its products, and what they could do for Airfix ships. I met (virtually and laters in real life) a lot of the modelers whose work I admired. I started writing for webzines and for a German print magazine. I got admitted to a close-knit group of German modeling pals in 2008, and have been displaying my models with them since. My interest in modeling has known fluctuations, but I never really lost it, and chances are I´ll keep on doing what I like about modeling for the foreseeable future. I do like old kits, and trying to make more of them than what´s in the box. I don´t count rivets, and am far from obsessive, but just try to make things looks reasonably credible to me. I mainly build ships, but also planes and other miscellaneous stuff.

I got my first digital camera in 2002, so anything from that point on tends to be better documented.

Here are some models from the year 2000 and earlier:

Image

Revell 1:72 Hurricane

Image

Monogram 1:48 Kingfisher float plane

Image

Tamiya 1:48 P-51 D. Setting a proper white balance back then was a thing that happened accidentally to me, if at all. Upon re-uploading, I adjusted the white balance.

A 1:35 dio of a barn find of a stash of vintage armour and weaponry, built around the Revell Sd.Kfz 10

Image

Revell box scale T2 tanker as ESSO Glasgow

Image

1:350 Zvezda Orel. WEM PE used. First use of machined brass parts.

I especially like the Zvezda Orel and the water effect.

Image

Hasegawa 1:700 IJN Asashimo

Image

Alanger (ex FROG) 1:48 Oakley RNLI Lifeboat

Image

Hasegawa 1:350 Soya antarctic research vessel. A really involved and demanding build, and a pleasing result.

Image

Image

My birthday present for SWMBO. A 1:350 X-Files themed diorama made from leftovers from the Soya kit.

Models built during 2008:

Image

NNT 1:700 B.98

Image

Academy 1:144 Boeing Clipper dio

Image

Eduard 1:48 Roland C.II

Image

Kombrig 1:700 HMS Royal Sovereign

Image

Airfix 1:72 Severn Class RNLI Lifeboat

Image

Sweet 1:144 Hurricane

Image

Sweet 1:144 Wildcat

Image

Image

Due to silicone shrinkage and general unhappiness with them, I redid the bases for HMS Howe and Ark Royal at this point, developing the technique for seascapes I basically still use today.

Image

I also participated in a group project, building a part of the Liverpool docks during the Battle of the Atlantic, together with three friends. This is the completed dio as presented at Telford that year. I contributed two ships to the dio:

Image

WEM 1:700 HMS Heather

Image

Niko / Conversion 1:700 HMS Hesperus

Amazing work. Your seascapes particularly impress me, with the Soya diorama being my favourite in the portfolio.

Superb work Frank :clapping: :clapping: I've seen some of it on other sites and I'm duly blown away!!! :notworthy: :notworthy:
Your aircraft are great, (especially the Sweet Hurricane and Wildcat) but some of your ship dioramas truly are awesome, the 1/400 Howe, 1/600 Narvik and the outstanding 1/600 Ark Royal!!!! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Gotta find out your refs for that

Thank you very much, gentlemen, your kind words are much appreciated!

It´s rather a new experience for me to see all the models in one continuous thread, so even if I still own a lot of them, it does make a difference.

Continuing with the few remaining

Frank
