I'd like to put forward a proposal for a Kreigsmarine GB. I know there was one in 2009 but no-one built anything that time around. In light of the interest in the recent RN group build, I'm hoping this would have some take up, especially with the recent re-release of the 1/72 E-boat and 1/400 U-boat, and the fact that the forum is that much bigger now than it was back then. Eligible kits would be:

1.1200
Bismarck
Prinz Eugen

1.600
Bismarck
Graf Spee
Narvik Class Destroyer
Prinz Eugen
Scharnhorst
Tirpitz

1.400
Bismarck or Tirpitz
Scharnhorst or Gneisinau
U-Boat Type VIIC
Kreigsmarine set

1.72
German E-Boat (S-Boat)

James

I agree with the proposition above. It's either doing DKM ships or classic ships. Building a Z38 Narvik Class Destroyer with this colour scheme: http://pacificstorm.net/images/First/sma05_Narvik.jpg would be right up my street.

Has my interest. :boat:

Would give me the excuse I've been looking for to get a Prinz Eugen. :yahoo:

I've also been looking at the E-Boat Hull for a while now. This has often drawn a fair amount of comment. However it looks very close to that of a class of R-Boats built at the same time and in the same yard. Perhaps a conversion opportunity. :smt024:  :?:

If I can get my modelling mojo back I will do a Prinz Eugen although I really must finish my HMS Sirius and T45 first! :fear:

BTW, James, are you deliberately choosing "Kriegsmarine" (this was the name of the German Navy only for the 1935-1945 period) or is it really an all "German Navy" GB? If the latter, we could include FGN Rommel too. Not sure if you want it adding to your list but no harm in asking for clarification!

Dave

Can you build any companies model of a ship that was in the German Navy or must it be an Airfix one? Some of the Airfix German Navy like Bismarck are a terrible kit that do need sinking with torpedo depth chaerge

A question that pops up from time to time. The group builds are restricted to Airfix boxings. For a full explanation have a look over the rules section.

I like the sound of that, would be great to see :thumb:

I think we could open it up to German Navy Dave - as you say it only means the addition of the Rommel and that's one we don't see built very often.

As interest seems to be picking up on a Kriegsmarine GB, do we have any volunteers for Group Build Leader? Paveshadow would be the obvious choice as he was the one to propose the idea.

I wouldn't mind putting my self forward for this GB, but I would think James would make a very suitable candidate for the job. :thumb: There are going to be a few Prince Eugens in the shipyards. Mine included. Also looking into building a Narvik class destroyer. :boat:

I only have one ship in my stash... and it's the Prinz Eugen. I've never built a ship before, so it'd be great to see how other builders go about it. Is the mould quality generally seen as better than the Bismarck? Is it one of the better ship kits?

Surely any Airfix boat kit would outclass the dubious Bismarck 1/600.

From what I've heard, Prinz Eugen is lovely. Ratch built one for the Hunt the Bismarck GB two years ago, so his build thread will probably answer the question perfectly.

Prinz Eugen, Repulse, KGV & Belfast were the last 1/600 warships kitted by Airfix and are regarded as quality kits :P

Keep hoping that Airfix will re-release the Graf Spee.

The first three members have been approved for membership this morning. I'm not sure if you can see the poll until this has occurred, so just in case the voting options for the start date are as follows:

1 October 2013
15 November 2013
4 January 2013

James

All registered members should be able to see the poll, but can only vote once they join the usergroup  .
