Greetings all. My name is Robert and I have been making plastic kits as long as I can remember. Before that my dad made the old colourful blister pack kits for me. I still remember my favorites being the blue plastic roland and hannover. I wish they still came that way. I make all kinds of kits but aircraft are my passion. In 1991 I went to live in Japan and discovered modellers nirvana. Kits were very cheap and there were lots of little model shops in the suburbs with dusty old boxes on the shelves just waiting for me to discover. I spent my first 2 years riding around on my bicycle looking for these shops in my spare time. Most of my stash of kits comes from this time. Sadly progress caught up and these old shops just disappeared. But I'm glad I was there while it lasted. Nine years ago my first child was born and Iwasnt able to build like before and kind of drifted into other things such as RC cars and stick and tissue flying models. Recently I hade to clean the garage and went through my stash and got the bug again. At the moment on my workbench are the following,
Airfix shooting star
Hasegawa T33
Airfix SR53
Vacform Heinkel HE178
Tamiya swordfish
Tamiya 1/12 Ferrari F1 car
Hasegawa leopold railgun
buck rogers starfighter
Trumpeter 1/700 USS Saratoga
Verlinden 120mm rat of Tobruk being converted into 95th rifleman Richard Sharpe
Only the Tamiya and Trumpeter kits have been bought in the last 15 years.
As you can see I got a bit carried away so have joined the medium bombers build to try and bring a bit of focus to my modelling.
I look forward to getting to know you through this group.
Cheers, Robert |

I was brought up in Bar Beach - left there after 22 yrs, lived in Lambton for 3.5 yrs, and then Adamstown for 10, New Lambton for 1 ... went to Newcastle High and University of Newcastle ... I know your town, mate.
I don't know it very well now, though. I haven't seen it for 20 months and every time I have seen it over the past 8 years there's been some change.
The one thing that changes stock but at least stays in the same place is Frontline Hobbies!
I got this one from Frontline in 1988, I think:
finished just over a week ago. |

Hello Robert and to the Airfix Tribute Forum
A moment invested here will ensure you don't go treading on toes or putting foot-in-mouth
Please take a moment to peruse the site Rules these are to help maintain our relaxed and friendly atmosphere on the site
The search facility is quite useful. If you have a question about something specific, try the search first Just remember, if you enter Hurricane a lot more threads will appear than if you search for 14002 (for example)
Most of all, enjoy your time here. Don't be shy, show us your work, tell us what you're doing and don't be afraid to ask questions - the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask _________________ and was Jerusalem, builded here

Thanks for the kind welcome from all of you. I am part of several other hobby groups on the web but have never had a welcome like this.
To Brews, the Marauder I bought for the group build came from Frontline Hobbies. The shop is huge now. They keep buying ajoining propeties and expanding. Their range of kits is as good as I have seen anywhere in the world( even though I haven't been to that many places in the world) but their prices can be scandelous. They are however the only game in town now bar two small shops with only a small range. This is sad for a city of getting on half a million people.
I lived in Shortland for 23 years, Lambton for 6 months, Wallsend for 1 year and have been in Thornton for 5 years. I also spent 6 years in Japan. Which leaves 4 years I can't account for which is a worry. Hopefully I will find these missing years.
Anyhow thanks again for the warm greetings.
Cheers, Robert |
