Posted: Mon 19 Feb 2007 09:54 am Post subject: Group Build "Gurus" Required |
|
|
At the moment I co-ordinate all of the Group Builds on my own. Although the workload is not great, I do not think that some subjects are getting a "fair hearing" as regards Group Builds. If you look at the subjects below, all those marked with an asterisk have not had Group Builds yet:
Aircraft - Civil * (Will be having one in May)
Aircraft - Military
Cars *
Bikes *
Railways *
Diorama *
Figures *
Military Vehicles
Ships and Boats
Space *
Sci-fi *
Robogear *
The problem with the current setup is that aircraft are dominating the Group Builds at the expense of other subjects. This is not surprising as aircraft are more popular but the main reason is because of the system currently in place for Group Builds. The remaining subjects have less space to be fitted in due to us trying to avoid Group Builds clashing. We now find ourself in the third week of February with subjects like Figures, Railways etc not likely to have their first Group Builds for another four, five or even six months, even though I have earmarked them for Group Builds! That is not fair on those people who perhaps only model figures or railways.
So, in order to correct this problem, I thought it might be a good idea have "gurus" responsible for each subject's Group Builds. Group Build Gurus will:
- promote and encourage Group Builds for their particular subject
- co-ordinate the polling of subjects to be considered for Group Builds for their particular subject
- arrange dates for the Group Builds and maintain and update their own Group Build timetable
- liaise with myself and other Gurus
Note that Gurus only have to avoid clashes within their own subject and not worry about the other subjects. If it means that some people may have to delay their participation in one Group Build because they are doing another one, then that is not a problem. We have already seen that members are quite happy to join in a Group Build well after it has started - or even finished. Hence the Group Builds Plus idea.
I won't be a Guru of an individual subject as I have my "Boss" builds and the overall GB co-ordination and GB administration to deal with. That means I require volunteers to be gurus for each subject. As you can see from the list below, I have already got some "willing" volunteers:
Aircraft - Civil
Aircraft - Military - Farmroad38
Cars, Bikes & Railways - Owen
Diorama & Figures - Ratch
Military Vehicles
Ships and Boats
Space, Sci-fi & Robogear
So, if any of you would like to offer your services as a GB Guru, then let me know in this thread stating which categories you would like to be considered for - or not.
Just put in your post:
I would like to be considered as Guru for - Enter your category(ies)
I do not wish to be considered as Guru for - Enter your category(ies)
Then, when the deadline for volunteers passes in four weeks time, myself and the moderator team will select the "Gurus" from the list of volunteers. You should only put your name down if you are willing and able to spend a fair amount of time organising "your" Group Build timetable. It does not matter if you haven't taken part in or don't intend to take part in Group Builds yourself as it is your organisational skills that are required - and your enthusiasm for your chosen subject.
Once all of the Gurus have been selected, new procedures will then be drawn up and the Group Build notes and instructions will be amended accordingly.

I would like to be considered as Guru for: Military Vehicles, Figures, Diorams possibly wargames if there is such a category although this would probably be covered by Figures/dioramas
I do not wish to be considered as Guru for: Aircraft - Civil, Aircraft - Military, Cars, Bikes, Railways, Ships and Boats, Space,
Sci-fi, Robogear
Hope I have posted this in the correct place
Cheers

Hi Stu,
Yes, you have posted in the correct place!
The Diorama & Figures category would include wargaming too and Ratch has bagged that one already. So, that leaves Military Vehicles for you to be considered for.
Thanks for answering the call!
Dave

I wouldn't mind being a Military Vehicle 'Guru'.

Thanks for putting your name forward, Edd. You will be considered along with all other applicants.
There are now two weeks left before I close the list. So, if anybody else wants to be considered for a role as a "Guru", then please post here.

I'd be happy to give Adrian a hand if he needs it with Military Aircraft.
I don't think I have the experience for any of the other areas. |

How about Civil Aircraft, Paul? They are still "wingy" things after all!

We still need members to post their nominations for consideration as "Gurus" for the following three categories:
Aircraft - Civil
Ships and Boats
Space, Sci-fi & Robogear
If nobody volunteers, then I will have to be "Guru" for all three but it would be nice if somebody else could assume those roles instead - especially the wingy and spacey ones!

I will be closing this thread at midnight on Sunday so there is little time for members to nominate themselves as candidate for the role of "Guru" for the following three categories:
Aircraft - Civil
Ships and Boats
Space, Sci-fi & Robogear
If you would like to be considered for the role of "Guru" for any of these categories then please make post in this thread.

No more nominations are being taken and this thread is now being locked. The moderators and myself will now discuss the appointment of gurus and an announcement will be made in the next couple of days. Note that someone being the only volunteer for a category does not mean that person automatically becomes the guru for that category.
In the absence of volunteers for the role of Ships & Boats guru, I will assume that role. I will also oversee those categories for which there are no gurus.
Thank you to everybody who put their name forward.
